going to replace our traffic here and don't know what to go with again, have had electric trouble with all the vivaro-2 before this traffic, and gearbox issues, we have stopped trailering with the van and now do it all with the landrovers. what would u replace it with, thinking of another as u have choice and they don't rot but don't want gearbox and electric problems. other would be the transit from 2010 onwards 2.2 engine but know nothing of them. be nice to be able to trailer a bit, not huge loads just 6x4 trailer of sand, or flat trailer with fencing stuff. used to pull the bigger loads with my Toledo as it gave less grief than the vans.

open to any ideas and views/experience, it is for doing general farm repairs for people so loaded with drills and generator etc most of the time, always well looked after.

think the 2.4 rwd transit might be too big as the smaller vans can still be easy parked if needed for other runs, but they are normally done with the caddy.

I'm in a similar position, currently have a 2015 Movano which I hate. Gearbox issues at 40,000 miles.
I've researched the sh!t out of vans as best I can.
2.2 transit suffer with cracked pistons. Google it. I think the new model after a few teething problems is reliable.
Crafter and Sprinter are a premium price but don't seem to be any better than anything else on the market. Ditto transporter and Vito.

I've just had a vito to replace a vivaro. It's a bit longer than the vauxhall but also lower. It's a better on fuel but I haven't loaded it up yet. The vito is nice to drive and wasn't to bad on price, a good bit cheaper than a transporter. I've only had it a few weeks but I'm pleased so far.

I am replacing my 05 caddy, I wanted something slightly bigger, I ended up going for a Peugeot Expert, same as the Toyota Proace and Citroen dispatch and one other. Not sure what reliability will be like, but the size suits me down to the ground.

caddy is on the small size for work but great for small jobs and checking cattle running about too. bigger van is basically a tool shed on wheels, never thought of vito will look into it

I didn't think of a vito either I just thought they were too expensive then one was recommended to me and I liked it. I thought I would have to go for a transit which I didnt really want. Most vitos also have twin side doors.

think the Traffic gearboxes issues may have been overcome they did modify the bearing on them a good few years ago and since have been ok
and that has apparently helped considerably (mate works in a renault dealers) although the latest ones are starting to suffer the same problem now perhaps the power from the new engines is now grater and bringing the gearbox issue back. So a used one of a couple of years old should be ok

We have VW Transporter 6 now and 5 before it , great vans to drive especially long distance but they are crazy money both new and used compared to most other vans on the market.
A mate has a new shape transit , now on his second one he likes it alot , just had it chipped up to 190hp and says its much better to drive with more power.
There are some great deals on the likes of the peugeot ones new from time to time I know a guy who bought one to convert to a camper 3 years ago and only paid £14k brand new inc vat.

On pure numbers on the road , It looks like Transits take some beating you see so many getting thrashed with a mini excavator on trailer behind and the van loaded right up too they must be ok , and any problems you hear of must be magnified , just by the sheer numbers you see about.

I’ve run a Caddy and currently run a Transporter, both have been great but you won’t get a Transporter for £5k unless it’s really old and tired I doubt.

You can get a cheaper VW crafter here, all be it, without the VW badge.

Decent savings can be had against equivalent vw models by all accounts

Just had a quick look. It's a bit hard to do an apples comparison as the TGE van range from MAN is stripped back in the prices to the bare van, whereas VW bundle quite a few things into their startline, trimline, etc, etc trim level packages.

By the time you add some (or a lot) of the options back in I don't think there will be a huge difference in it :scratchhead:

At the end of the day I suppose MAN is just another brand owned by the mothership.
