A friend of mine posted a picture of triplet calves on facebook and ended up having to get the police involved after spending a week blocking abusive threatening comments towards his family and customers.

He was in the local paper

Sickening to think they are on here, like having rats in the attic. What else are they reading? Are they twisting it from what it says to what they think it should say?

The trouble is that we ( as farmers ) need to get a stronger message out to the public. Your friends came over as decent people just trying to make a living and were very courteous to the presenters and the bloke they were trying to discuss against, however he didn’t show them the same courtesy. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this happen and we need to have people ( professionals ) who can give as good back and turn arguments around. In this instance when he started going on about AI they should have stated that it was more like helping infertile couples than rape and that looking after calves was more like adoption. Someone needs to say that it’s all about quality of life. I’m not a livestock farmers but I know loads. I always judge them on whether I’d mind being one of their animals. Happily there isn’t one that I’d wouldn’t want to be and often think they have a much better quality of life than humans do. To put it into context my daughter has had her second patient this week ( Monday and Tuesday) suffering from heart conditions due to stress and they’re both bankers under 30.
Someone also needs to put into context exactly how important farmers are. I always think a supermarket is an excellent example. There’s isle after isle of farm and fishing produce from cotton and wool to milk and veg. Out of the 30 odd isles just one is electrical goods. It’s where personally I think the NFU need to step up. They are brilliant at making the point to government and lots of behind the scenes work that most farmers haven’t a clue about but personally I think they need to get the message over to the public or else we need someone else who can. Maybe we need to get more advertisers on board, something like the Dodge Ram commercial quoting Paul Harvey type thing so that the public can relate to farming.

Yes, he had no manners whatsoever, nor did he stick to the point, or any point. He omitted the fact that when a cow is on heat she'll go through anything to get to a bull, even if it's her own father/grandfather, brother or son/grandson.
I hope he grows all his own food and doesn't rely on us evil farmers to rape the soil and the earth just so he can feast himself on the fat of the land. Also hope he doesn't heat his dwelling as that will cause global warming. Not sure where he should source his clothes from, again decimating the planet.
Pity he doesn't go out to Sudan or Ethiopia and do something practical about helping people. As a vegan he wouldn't use up too much of their food reserves either :sneaky:

AI looks quite gentle compared to the way our bull rams his gurt long willy home :inpain:
It don't matter if he does grow all he own food he will still be eating animals, he has animals inside him now loads of them

If a vegan cant wear wool, or leather, they may wear synthetic materials, however these can cause micro particles of plastic to go out with the clothes wash water, contaminating the sea - far more damaging to the environment than shearing a sheep (or keeping that sheep in the hills), I guess that only leaves cotton or linen and I am not sure how environmentally friendly growing cotton is either!
