Volac Urban Calf Feeder

Hi. I am very interested in investing in a volac urban u40 feeding machine. Have read good things about these machines so hopefully worth the purchase. Currently rearing 2x batches of 30 calfs every year.

Has anyone here had any experience with these? The main concerns the running costs of the machine. Obviously as the machine is on 24/7 to keep the milk replacement warm so am i too expect a sky high electricity bill? Also does the machine work with Wynnstay's Stellar milk powder?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I don't have that model of machine but on ours (an old Forster Technik) the water is heated as required, (lie those little water heaters you sometimes get in the loos in public buildings) and not kept hot all day. It only mixes with the replacer when it enters the bowl for immediate drinking. So if no one drinks for an hour there is not a big volume of water being kept hot.

I am just after taking my first batch of dairy bulls off milk.

20 in total - this is only a side project to see if I can make money in rearing dairy bulls - but as I am fairly confident of rearing more in the future, I am interested in an automatic milk feeder also.

Can I ask what sort of cost you think these machines are? Have you done much market research yet, or why have your chosen the Volac Urban feeder?

After reading that I would say stay as you are!
I know people with over 1000 cows that still feed in 1-2-3’s and certainly not with automatic feeders so they can’t be as good and as labour saving as one hopes...
