Warburtons Contract

Olly seems far more concerned about racking up retweets and likes from the misinformed people rather that correcting them. Silence is no defence! His post has clearly mislead thousands.... I am sure deep down he feels quite silly for not clearing up the details sooner, if not he should.

I am sure all these consumers boycotting Warburtons will now be buying bread supplied 100% by UK co-op wheat.....

Warburtons have clarified the situation on Twitter:

"At Warburtons we've made some changes to our wheat supply chain so we are set up for the future. We will continue to source 50% of our wheat from UK farmers and have no plans to change this. In fact, as we grow the amount of wheat we buy from Britain will increase too. The rest of our wheat is sourced from Canada as we believe the blend of the two gives us the best quality wheat to produce the best quality bread. Our family business is fully committed to UK agriculture and will continue to work with British farmers for the long term"

Slightly odd discussion on this topic. We all know grain buying is being concentrated into fewer hands and most of us vote for the system that makes it inevitable. What is not inevitable however is decision to buy inputs from the same people. If you don’t like Cargill vote with your feet.

How enviromentaly sustainable is sourcing 50% of wheat from Canada.
We all know the ships run on the lowest grade of oil.
What seed treatment are the Canadians allowed to use on their wheat?
Is the Canadian wheat 100% free from GM contaminants ?

That’s what they were doing anyway. Moving from frontier to Openfield is irrelevant. Maybe now frontier are there they can source more U.K. wheat to knock some of the Canadian our?

It bloody well does influence price when its not produced to the same standard as ours!
Perhaps you should try and market ours as produced to a higher standard, Bee friendly locally produced rather than blend it with crap after all your marketing it for a fee.
Its like a chicken pie made with 50% free range chicken and 50% chlorinated!:ROFLMAO:

why is everyone so upset about food imports ? ........... The UK has been importing food for decades (centuries even !) and for all those years it has been produced to a different standard

Absolutely NOTHING has changed

NFU and remoaners are just winding farmers up again

If we ban food imports do we ban cheap electronics cars etc ? ........ did you all want to geo without TV's, iPhone and computers ........... your cars and ractors even

someone, please tell me how they envisage this navana where nothing less than UK standard products can be available in this country please ??

If you believe YOUR product is better then I suggest money and effort are focused on marketing that fact to consumers rather than trying to force law to tell them what they must do !

somethings do change. Most UK products have been behind EU import barriers for the last 50 years. End users now have the potential freedom to source raw materials from a wider market.

no - what he chooses to post is nothing to do with me

He has plenty of experience of dealing with frontier however as farmer, storekeeper and haulier so is well qualified to comment

well thats a positive thing for consumers then I guess - are protected markets really haealthy

How would you feel about not being allowed to buy a mobile phone or tv or car because our government said no? isn't the trading situation of the past all a little close to population control ........ ie communism?

Perhaps he is a secret remoaner and NFU supporter ;)

I believe he voted to join the common market and was an NFU county chair in the past ............ amazing how the world changes yet some people are more able to change than others, thankfully my father is more open to change and not stuck in his ways than most it seems! I suspect this ability and open mind is connected to his success over the years

Depends on the protections. How would you like the freedom to buy a TV if that TV had a track record of catching fire. That is nothing to do with communism - and communism is an odd comparator. Society has a duty to look after itself and that involves some form of regulation. The issue here is being focussed on common standards versus basic standards. The former UK the latter USA.

I would prefer the choice and information to make my own mind up about not buying the TV that might catch fire

and a manufacturer of TVs that don't catch fire would make sure I was informed of that if they were smart with their marketing

Agriculture has to stop assuming its consumers are stupid and need us to protect them - put energy into marketing why your product is better and if it TRULY is they will buy it and we will all live happily ever after!

The more we moan and demand protection the more we look like spoilt brats sadly

As a cereal grower, I have been competing against USA GM product for over a decade .......... as I say NOTHING is new here really
