I would be careful of this, I did exactly that after moving a tank and the first frost the heating packed up . Realising the problem I found I was very lucky it had not shattered the bowl which would have released the fuel all over the garden. The bowl was solid with iceFilter bowl should take it out. If its doesn't fit a bigger one off an old tractor. Did this on a car once that had water in thr petrol , used every drop
“How long do plastic oil tanks last? A plastic tank is usually a green, moulded polyethylene container. It has around a 10-15-yearlifespan, but many problems can occur along the way which can cause a hazardous leak or contamination within storage.12 Sept 2019”16 years old
we had one fail after about 5 years but that was a while ago. I personally would go steel every time but there is the long term rust issue“How long do plastic oil tanks last? Just put a blanket over the bowlI would be careful of this, I did exactly that after moving a tank and the first frost the heating packed up . plastic tanks never seem to have a drain plug, no idea why? There should always be a drain-plug at the back of any fuel tank, which should always be at a lower point than the draw off point. This should be used to drain off the condensate on a regular basis.
It rarely is giving rise to multiple prolems from condensation
This is the paste we use.I'd suck as much out with a pipe and a pump as possible.
You can buy a paste you put on a stick which tells you how much water is in the tank.
You can also buy sponges which you put in the tank on the end of some string which soak up water
Depends on compliance too.......we had one fail after about 5 years but that was a while ago. I personally would go steel every time but there is the long term rust issue
Got a small 12v pump off Amazon. Took about 20 gallon of water and dirt out of the bottom of the tank.worked a treat. Should make a big difference.
Thanks for all the replies and help.
Think I might consider a new bunded tank before the next fill.
