Normally have about 60 stores of 12-18 month old running on a block of land where they drink from a spring, from next year they will not be able to access this and will have to use mains water, what quantity of water are they likely to consume over 12 months? As just trying to work out the costings as to maybe having a bit of a reshuffle, cheers

Cheers for the replies, that’s about what I was already thinking, would like to use a pasture pump or similar but there is some engineering works being done and I’ve lost the piece with spring on.

We had 50 12-18 month old steers and heifers on a block over the summer. We have put a water tank, 5000l, up there and it feeds a couple of water troughs. They were drinking about 10000l a week. We pump the water out of the stream that runs along side. The stream cuts the block in 2. 1 side they have access to the stream, the other side they do not. We have 20 up there at the moment and are topping it up about every 5 days.

28 litres / hd / day.

I always reckoned 5 gallons /day for cows, - summers are variable of course.

To the OP - budget £7 / day for mains water be a good starting point?

I have an 1800 gal rainwater capture tank that trips to top up when there is about a1/4 left. It's currently supplying 55 mixed age cattle. In the past this takes about 4 days dry before trip in. If my reckoning right that's iro 6gal a head per day. On dry silage.
