What will happen is the parole board will say "he is no longer a risk to society, so can be released under licence", the home secretary will wring their hands and say "there is nothing I can do as it's out of my hands"
It’s supposed to be a full life term with no access to parole. However who knows if things will change further down the line.

I dont normally support hanging, but looking what he did to that poor girl, he deserves it, or worse..
I have long thought that the police have many corrupt officers who turn a blind eye to each others misdemeanours, these are police, they should be squeaky clean!
And before we berate his colleagues too hard for sharing inappropriate material, do not forget it was only last year a female officer was reinstated after being sacked for sharing pictures of extreme child abuse!
I don't support the death penalty at all, and it has nothing to do with people who have actually committed heinous crimes like this, but rather the fact that miscarriages of justice happen because the justice system is not infallible (see: The Birmingham Six etc etc).

Today’s announcement of an independent inquiry skewers Dick who had said that they were going to have an internal one

I have no idea how Dick remains in post
