Weather forecast

Of all the choices we've got of weather forecasts is there one that appears to be more accurate then the others, it's doing my head in this year

Accuweather is quite accurate. It’s goes on to forecast for weeks but I don’t know how accurate that would be. But certainly I always feel they get the weeks forecast fairly accurate

They've turned into a bloody joke, it's not a forecast if it changes every hour, it's just telling you what the weather is doing at the that point, which is useful if you work in an office with no windows...

Although some of the time it gets that wrong too.

Getting on my t!ts to. Seems to be dry (albeit overcast) when they say rain, when they say "turning brighter in the afternoon" it rains.
Forecast heavy rain this afternoon but I bet it wont happen.
Also they should define heavy rain. On and off rain yesterday which was, so called, heavy, but little more than drizzle :banghead::banghead:

Long and short of it is showery weather is next to impossible to forecast.
Dry settled spells they can cope with. Or proper rain.
But when showers are such that a mile down the road is dry whilst we're getting frequent showers, how can anyone forecast that? Apart from saying "risk of showers".

It will never be easy to get weather forecasts for the South West peninsular, but I find Windy.com is often handy. I'm not sure who's information they use to compile their forecasts - undoubtedly more than one source - but I've found them ok across a week.

There's also the Irish Met Office, whose long range forecast is useful. I sort of stitch those two in with the BBC regional forecasts on TV. It's coming up to tourist season, so the Beeb gets flak about accuracy when it comes to rain and showers, and becomes delightfully vague as a result. Commercial TV forecasting is even worse, so I never watch it now.

You get what you pay for

Sencrop forecast is very good as is the Riza contour one - both have a cost however

Best free one is Dark Sky - it’s the one we use on the TFF weather page

Just as a point of info - the met office app has both written summary and symbols (for every hour for the current day) as no doubt do plenty of other apps. The symbols are computer generated and can be far more area specific, whilst the blurb is the forecaster's interpretation, but generally more regional.

This gives both their strengths and weaknesses - a human being is able to suggest uncertainty and possible alternatives, whilst the computer is updated far more frequently and can be more specific to your area.

I also find the rain radar page very useful, tracking showers or rain band's progress to enable short term decisions.
