I can't see it myself - we've been stuck in the same weather pattern by and large for nearly 10 months now, how many changes of the moon have we had in that time? If there was any truth in it one would expect to see a regular monthly change in the weather and I can't see much evidence for that. The moon does create tides of course, and does so extremely predictably, such that we know what the tides will be months if not years in advance, so if the moon was affecting the weather surely we should be able to see some obvious effects?
While it would be nice to say this was true there is no proven scientific data that this is true, but some would say it has such a large effect on the oceans it also affect the Earth's weather, The atmosphere is also a fluid and so the Moon could (and does) generate the Earth’s climate. It may even be a big key to maintaining and stabilisation of our seasons.
While some scientist have produced evidence that the Moon can influence and generate storms and high rainfall, so in conclusion here at metjeffuk we would go along with the theory that the moon does have some influence over our weather.

I'm always so cautious with such 'theories'. I remember only to well the UK Met Office saying it would always be impossible to forecast more than a few days in advance due to chaos theory and that seasonal forecast was not possible. The same organisation now issue seasonal forecasts (whether they be good or bad at it is another matter) but it pays to be careful with such statements!
One of my colleagues has done extensive research into weather pattern associated with certain Moon cycles and in relation to distance and angles fro the earth at certain times of year. There is something to be pulled from this research and we do take it into account when issuing seasonal forecasts. However, rather than pinpointing certain events, or highlighting spells of cold weather, we tend to use the guidance from Moon data associated with certain global atmospheric patterns.
I probably haven;t explained that very well, but hope you can get something from it?
On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
