Weighbridge Running Costs

Currently looking into installing a weighbridge on farm as we are currently paying to use a local distilleries regularly.

What does it cost to ensure it is certified? I’m presuming it will need to be calibrated on an annual basis.

trading standards randomly call and check it’s calibrated
should be certified when installed and aslong as there’s no problem with it leave it alone

All modern scales are weigh cell operated so an electrical system they don't deviate from the weight unless they are damaged in which case the weight display will show an error code . The only thing that could change that would be that the pit under them ( if you had one ) or the beams on which the drive over bridge is supported are being held up by mud and not bearing thus reading the full weight .
Assuming you are wanting a "trade scale" so you can sell your produce on your weight not just check weighing product you would need to make sure the scales are CE marked and type approved to the EU standard for weighing equipment. I'm guessing that "red tractor" and or your other buyers QC standards will want you to show that the scales are calibrated that could be a simple known test weight ( block of concrete for example) put on them once every 6 months and the "Pass" recorded in to show they are still calibrated.
As long as you don't want to be public weighbridge that is a lot more involved.

I thought it depended on if it was for private use or not, so even if it's not for public weigh but you want to use it to (for example) sell your straw by the ton then it had to be treated the same way as a public weighbridge

3 different levels.
Private use you cant sell with it but don't have to have it checked.
Trade approved you can use it for trade but not open to the public. You register with local authority who may turn up once a year with weights and measures.
Public weighbridge, operatives have to do an exam and the weighbridge must be open to the hours agreed with trading standards. They may turn up once a year.
We started off with no maintainance contract one visit made it beneficial as the parts are included in the contract.

I have a certified weighbrigde. I don’t know if the rules here in DK are the same, but here a certification is valid for 4 years. It cost about 1500£ to have it verified. Then it’s legal for trade.
