My auto shade welding helmet gave up the ghost this evening ( headband fell to bits ) any recommendations for a good 1 that won’t break the bank or fall to bits after 6months, not bothered about air feed as have an extractor in workshop

I've had a speedglas for over 20 years that's finally literally fallen to pieces and is currently held together with masking tape! Would have another in a heartbeat.

The other alternative is a speed glass which are day and night mine has the shade 9 side pieces so you can see either side if your welding something iffy and it’s caught fire quite easy.

I bought my brother one out of Lidl for £19.

Seems it works well.

I’ve an Esab which is really good but has no grind function which is annoying.

yes the light is useful but powered by battery so sometimes flat. Still a bargain though.

Got arc eye recently hurt so bad went all out and baught a optrel panaramexx clt if thats how it spelt cost close to the price the mig welder did but you wouldnt believe how good it it in a apsoluteley different world . Not saying go buy it as its hidious money to part with but my eyes were hirting bad and you cant buy new eyes was from united welding rug them up did a bit of extra discount
