Well done Claas

Given that there are many threads on here saying what poor service people get from machinery dealers I would just like to say a public well done to CLAAS western in Frome.
The alternator went on my combine this morning. With only 40 ac to go I was not best pleased. There was not one in frome so Matt one of the reps drove to cirencester to pick one up for me. A couple of hour s round trip
Combine was up and running this evening.

Thanks everyone involved

I've come to the conclusion that it takes only one person in any organisation to make it tick ,,,,, I've had dealings this year with a different franchise that worship at the alter of dark green paint and shiny yellow wheels ,,,,,, one person took an interest into my misery of 5 years combine ownership and he has turned that machine around ,,,,,, it's now a totally different machine , he often gives me a ring to see how it's running and says try this and try that ,,,,, sometimes you just need to hit a problem backwards and forwards and sometimes you come up with an answer ,,,, they always said 2 heads are better than one

I now have a dilemma ,,,, was due to change it this winter ,,,,, hmmmmm

I would echo the same positivity about Claas at Frome. Can get a part for the dominator the next morning if ring before 5:30pm. Open all weekend and late this time of year. They sorted the big breakdown we had and were out the same day. Tho I did ring 5:20pm yesterday afternoon and they were shut.

Compare this to the fact I couldn't get anyone to come out and repair a belt on our case round baler all weekend. Today or tomorrow would have been the earliest. Even phoned c and o's Blandford and it was an out and out no. "We won't have the parts for a case/nh anymore" bullsh!t. They couldn't be fudged.

Service wise around here I am not sure why you wouldn't get Claas machines for cereals and grass

Our local Claas dealer were very good when we had problems with our Axos over the Christmas period, someone always answered the phone, they offered to get a machine to us if we needed it. We couldn't fault them, then the bill came for over double the price they had quoted! Very much tarnished the whole experience.

Just as a matter of interest, how much did they charge you for the alternator?

My alternator on a Mega 350 went 5 years ago and I was supplied a recon one from my Claas main dealer in a Claas branded box. This only lasted 2 years and went wrong on a Friday with rain forecast the next day. The Claas dealer got a brand new one for the next day, I collected it in the rain and they charged me about twice as much as I could have got it from a local electronics shop, but I didn't have the part number as the recon one had no writing on it. I lost out on my contract work as the customer got in another combine. I was furious that Claas would supply recon alternators of poor quality, I would rather have a new one that lasts.

Motto: Never buy cheap stuff, you always end up paying twice.

Nothing new for Claas ... The Harvest Stores near York had the head storeman living in a house on site. He would come out in his dressing gown and serve you at 02:30 if you had telephoned ahead. (Talking late 60's - early 70's).

Incidentally we had a call from a Scunthorpe based farm last Friday morning asking if we could collect some conveyor parts from a manufacturer in Wiltshire because they were unable to deliver before Tuesday (today). We got the parts collected by 13:00 and actually delivered at 18:15 same day. All the Bank Holiday traffic meant that our original ETA was put back by a couple of hours.

Have to say I think Claas have a very good back up reputation. Yes, their machines break, but the way they behave when they do break generally seems to be to their credit.

Maybe because the parts are more expensive like for like that they can do this?... a dealer director friend was in the dilemma of carrying on NH or going Claas after a merger, the Claas spiel was he would double his parts profit if they went with them, chose to stay NH as it had made the business it was.

Claas once forgot to send a bit for me and sent it on a bike that morning to Penrith F.O.C.
Mf might have said sorry.
We had a fantastic Massey dealership locally, and when we had a major breakdown with the combine a few years back they got the parts overnight and got us going again by 2.00 PM.
Sadly the dealership was shafted by MF, and another dealer was appointed and they had to be sub dealers for them. They are closed now, but due to C&O tractors taking the MF franchise the previous dealers have lost the area, happy days! RIP RAM, gentlemen sadly missed!

Is the combine heavy on current? Just wondering if spare batteries would have helped you along for a while.

We use Mill engineers for Claas and cannot fault them at all. Ring them up with a problem and generally they are there within 90 minutes bearing in mind they are an hour away.
We've had them out a few times this harvest and each time they've got us going again.
They always have the parts in stock and will post non urgent items for next day delivery.
