Wellies, what to try next.....

After ideas of what wellies to get next, getting sick of having a wet foot!

Want them to stand up to general farming wear and tear, being covered in cow muck etc.

Like neoprene lined wellies for warmth plus the extra comfort and support as I have a weak ankle.

Had a few pairs of seals neoprene lined which are excellent for a couple of months until they split ( had 5 pairs do this)

Dunlop thermo + are ok but a bit clumsy and numb

Tried muck boots but they didn't last 2 minutes.

Don't mind spending a bit as I'm usually in them for 8 or 10 hours a day.

Surprised you havent got on with Seals as I have worn a pair out rather than have them split. Are they fitting your feet properly?

Good cleated sole is essential

I did my back years ago and over flex my left foot so the wellies always split across the top. I don't think it is the price or the design but the quality of the rubber that makes them split. I've had all sorts but Dunlops last best for me -- at around £14 a pair.

Could you not wear a crepe bandage for ankle support and an in-sole for warmth? According to the TV adverts. Scholl do a good one and I'll probably give them a try.

I know you said purofort but the purofort+ Full safety boot is hard to beat. I wear thick cotton socks and double up if it's chilly or for really cold a pair cotton socks with heat holders over. It depends on your use really: cold and standing/little movement then the heat holders over cotton work really well but they don't do too much walking very well. Double cotton is usually good enough if you're moving about as you'll generate heat that way. I don't go near wool socks myself: they're uncomfortable (sweaty), don't wash well, hold hay/straw like needles and are expensive for what they are.

They have all split at the join between the sole and the upper, tried size 9.5 and 10 with thick socks both same. That are great until they split.

Thats a common fault with those wellies, I really liked mine but after minimal wear they split at the sole/upper. I was able to take them back to wynstay and get a replacement pair of a different make as it was so common.

Grubs frostline or Grubs snowline.

Very comfortable neoprene that's lightweight, and most importantly, very long lasting.

Forget muckboots, they're as durable as a paper coat.

Had old version of puroforts they did ok
Treated(?) myself to skellerup Quattro , warm and comfy but leaked after a couple of months
Now on “ bogs” boots not toilet, from local ag merchant and so far so good

I use Dunlop thermo +. Bit numb and 'slap' at the top. Also let straw and chaff in. But warm, a safety wellie and as I have arthritis in my toes, prevents them bending too much. I should add they are heavy but seem to last fairly well. Prefer leather safety boots but not much good in winter, or summer for that matter, when looking after livestock in the sh.... I mean poo ;) Pair of muck boots for shooting and beating but fed up with them and now bought some proper boots. Expensive but comfortable and good support.

Ask 10 farmers which wellie and you'll probably get 10 different recommendations.

I've recently bought one of the above. Find the vibram sole excellent for shock absorbing but there a little too warm if anything and seam to hold a lot of muck and feel numb somehow. Also one size felt tight next size nearly too big and seam to have given a little bit with use and started rubbing my ankle:( dissapointing at a cost of £80!!

If I could buy an "ordinary" pair of wellies with a really good sole to absorb shock that would do me.......

I spend a lot of time in wellies and I rate these. They also have a Vibram sole which gives decent wear and grip.

^ these. I live in mine all winter, for several winters. I used to do the same when I lived in cow slurry half the time too, and they would last several years.

I’d agree about the Aigle’s had my neoprene ones for several years and they’re like wearing slippers however in the summer they do get a bit warm so have another summer pair ( without the neoprene) which are good for walking in and much cheaper. Also have a pair of muck boots that I never wear as they are ‘kin lethal on wet concrete or stone.

Likewise, but my 'summer' wellies are cheap, green ones...
