Welsh Sustainable Farming Scheme AND Protests

The big problem with labour is they only govern for the marginal seats around cardiff and the North East. They don't really do much for the valleys just throw them a bone every now and again. The valleys will alway vote labour and the rural seats never vote for them so why bother with either. It's just that now with the policies coming out of cardiff it feels like an attack on rural Wales, they are hammering farming, going after tourism with tax, won't spend on infrastructure and are closing out hospitals. There needs to be a major change in attitude towards the rest of Wales.
Rest of wales above Merthyr is forgotten.

It's even worse in the west we've only got 3 industries agriculture, tourism and the refinery all of which are being clobbered. Add to that WG want to close our hospital and replace it with one 40 odd miles away from where it is now.
same here but a 25 mile drive to it and a possible 12hr wait to be seen ... our local was excellent

So boys & girls it appears that of the two candidates to succeed Drakey. Mr Jeremy Miles is insisting that 10% tree cover is “fair” and that farmers must play their (our) part in climate mitigation whilst Mr Vaughan Gethin says that he will have a “conversation“ with the farming unions around the percentage

Bit of a rock and a hard place around which we have no say

Is this Miles man twp? Doesn't he realise that farming sequesters Carbon? And even if it didn't, and we had to decide what industries to continue (even when they had a Carbon footprint) the industry at the top of the list to continue with would be food production!

For non Welsh speakers “Twp” means soft in the head

Seems about right. Certainly won’t be any sort of farmer’s friend

never has been or was it going to be ..... was bought 'for' the woman that 'runs' it to diversify, (with no business plan) on ..... you couldn't make it up ..... total, utter fiasco .. as is the WA
the festival is held on the local 'landed knobhead's' estate

" Green Man says it has no plans to move its annual festival from the current Glanusk site, where it attracted 25,000 people last August. "

" Andrew RT Davies said: "How is it that the Green Man festival can secure £4.25m worth of government support with no business plan when any other business here in Wales would have to submit that very necessary piece of information to acquire even a fraction of that money to support their business plan? "

have a google of Fiona Stewart

Miles just doesn't think the tide has turned and is more left wing. He still thinks there is an anti farmer stance amongst the left wing of the party he is a fully paid up menber of the hate the west bregade.Vaughan gethin is maybe a bit more pragmatic more of a blairite. Which one is better remains to be seen I would go for Gethin but it is a bit like picking your favourite sh!t to stand in.

Anyone remember the EID grant? £1,000,000 for farms to get equipment @£500 each. They were proud of the fact that 1000 farms received the grant. Hang on, 1000x500 is £500,000. "Where's the other £500,000 gone?" I asked one one of the knobs. "Admin costs "
The admin costs of all these schemes comes out of the same pot as does the farm connect costs. They seem proud of the fact that the bps has stayed at the same for years, have they not heard of inflation? Don't tell me WAG wages have stayed constant
Any scheme run by civil servants, have 50% admin costs as standard.

Perhaps this country need a party like the BBB in Holland.

The BBB is made up of farmers and has won a majority in the Dutch parliament...
No, it hasn't. The BBB won 7 seats out of 150 seats in the House of Representatives, making it the sixth largest party in the House. This gives it enough seats - as a voting block - to be important in forming a working coalition, but that's all.

Presumably those 7 were won under PR too, not the FPTP system we have here?

Thank you so much for fact checking me, I appreciate it. Yes, the PR system is how members are elected. So we should view these 7 seats as a significant start considering the roots of the party (excuse the pun).

@Danllan it's nearly impossible to do an accurate headcount of the farmers at carmarthen unless they are counted in/out. But I was there and regularly at the market buying cattle. I know what 700 animals look like in the pens and there was many multiples of people crammed in compared to the cattle on sale day plus all the allys were full. The car park was full and all the roads outside full of parked cars, lots of people shared lifts too, our car had 5 people from 4 farms

We need to get everyone from the whole industry in one place, just like the Germans did in Berlin and the french did with Paris.

Show the country who feeds them.

Christ, just watching these protests has just made me want to farm even more!

If the public sector worker can't protest, then those of us with the means and the machines really should.
