Welsh Sustainable Farming Scheme AND Protests

I've not spoken to many farmers who think net zero is rubbish but the way the government are going about it isn't right.
They want the farmers to do the heavy lifting to help get to net zero but they don't want to pay fairly for it. They government are the ones that signed up to unrealistic targets with no idea how to do it. Now they are panicking and expect farmers to do all the work for no, or very little rewards while everyone else carries on as normal and nothing else changes.
There's no getting away from the fact we're a white elephant in reality, when flights are increasing, no progress is made on electric production, and oil is pumped at record levels, and an easy target, as the industry doesn't have the resource of the oil/travel industries to lobby. But it doesn't take long to look at other emitting sectors to see what they push on their communications/PR- their far more expensive PR teams show what they're doing to reduce it- not deny it's their problem.

just talking to my partner about net zero and how we as a country need to just buy and use less, if we are going to get to net zero.

Maybe if we really wanted to get the world to net zero, the united nations would take over Kazakhstan and sort out their methane emissions from their oil and gas industry.

Problem is,when the TV news haven't got a lot of time to go through the finer details, their headline is that the Assembly want farmers to plant trees to save the climate and the bloody farmers don't want to do it,the bar stewards. The way it's sleeting and snowing here ATM bring on the warming I say,but that's not the point

"When they sign up to it, then they will know...... how much they will get"!

FFS the woman is an imbecile

To be fair, that clip looks like a montage of questions and part answers, not necessarily shown in the right order.

We should know the figures by the summer, long before we have to choose whether we sign up or not.

In 2005 the UK produced just approx 750,000 tonnes of beef. in 2022 it was over 900,000t- that's a 17% increase

The cattle numbers in 2005 were just over 10.5m. 2022 just under 9.5m. A 10% reduction.

Through genetics and feed efficiency- we've made huge strides in producing more from less there as a headline figure.

Like it or not, we contribute to emissions. Like it or not, we've all been on the journey to improve that situation for years.

Sorry for digressing from the original matter of this thread...
Extensive beef is negative...
Lots of pasture beef is negative or zero.
Gov won't admit it as it means the % from beef has to be shared on other stuff like flying which they will struggle to reduce.

I read that farmers in NI will have beef headage payments and are now pressing for sheep payments too. But somehow I don’t see Monbot having a go at farmers or the devolved government there!

Well a few of us who think for ourselves differ from your opinion...net zero is complete bulls**t.. just look at this video..and we are at about 400 ppm presently.. much lower and plants will struggle to grow at all... Watch and listen..I rest my case ..
I really give up at my fellow farmers they've really believed the propaganda..and people wonder how a learned nation like Germany followed an idiot like Hitler...it's happening again..

I can’t like that enough. People and farmers are certainly like sheep and give up thinking for themselves at the slightest soundbite that seems however remotely popular and convincing, with no real evidence whatsoever. Yes, mass hysteria is happening again and certain mad agendas are being promoted that are irrational but people who should know better are attaching themselves to them like leaches or barnacles as if the ideas promoted are the only and whole truth.

Diolch @Cowabunga , I didn't bother going to the protest in Cardiff on Wednesday.. for the above reason...our so called protest leaders/ speakers never mention this fundamental fact...are they so stupid? Or just swallowed the net zero propaganda? Enough of them should be old enough to remember the mad cow disease fiasco...with the so called government scientific experts saying how dangerous our beef was and millions of people could die from new variant CJD..It destroyed us beef farmers for a decade or more..the probable reason was due to the very good beef prices prior to that announcement in ? March 96? And here we are again believing the so called scientists...who have a agenda ,which fundamentally is to help the multinational companies take over the whole world..these scientists sing to the tune of where their research money comes from..
Wake up Bois Bach.. before it really is too late.

You didn’t bother joining us in Cardiff to protest against the imposition of the SFS, the worst parts of which are driven by a headlong rush to ‘net zero’, because you don’t believe climate change is an issue and net zero is bollox? :scratchhead:

The general public SEEM concerned with net zero (some)

But want someone else to sort it for them, as they fly away AGAIN. Ther nt going to change their lives, which are in financial turmoil, dispite getting a near 10% wage increase

JUST less than half can afford a funeral, so only the well off care about zero, and look to the countryside to sort it. CONSTANT advert for trees planting on radio keeps the finger pointing

Most of the public i see quote methane , so i have to correct them, but its futile at one to one, So some kind of publicity is required, as the UK producing more meat from less animals is

a fantastic achievment

What was the point if the protest leaders and our farming unions are so thick, that they can't point out this fundamental fact of biology, that proves that carbon dioxide reduction is suicidal.. this fact can't be argued with..this is the basic fact that should be used..and explained to everyone.. explain this fact, and most of the SFS scheme is mockery...
I've only an "O " level in maths, and a cycling proficiency test certificate to my name.. but if I had a chance to put these facts to Drakeford and Griffith's.. it would be a dam site better than moaning while driving a £100k tractor.
