Westwood t1800 cutting deck won’t engage

Hi. I’m having troubles getting my Westwood cutting deck to engage. I’ve already replaced the battery and pcb to get the engine running. There is no power at all to the cutting deck clutch when pressing the switch on the dash. All fuses are good, pcb is new. I have tested the dash switch with a meter and all seems good.

What is the relay next to the fuses for? I have disconnected it and everything (ignition, starting, lights, drive etc) seems to work except the cutting deck which leads me to think that relay is at fault but I get a reading on the meter across 30/87 when the ignition is turned on so it seems to work. Fuel pump maybe? What could be the issue with the deck please? Are there any safety switches I should be checking?

thanks, Andy.

Link the wires together on all of the safety switches using spade fuses

If the deck works swap back to the swith one at a time

Switches on seat, brake

You can put a direct supply to the clutch to check its working

I suspect a wire has a break if switches are good.

Thanks both I'll check that out . The seat switch is taped together. I don't suppose you know where I should be looking for the cutting deck safety switch do you? It has a a separate tow behind PTO collector so I don't think that is it. I'll also test the clutch itself.

I can't find any deck safety switch but I found a wiring diagram (https://help.gardentractorspares.co.uk/help/wts/ser/wlde-44-95618-00.jpg) and did another read on the white wire to the electric clutch. I'm getting a reading of approx 1.5v with the ignition on and no change when pressing the deck switch. If I turn the ignition off the voltage slowly drops. I've attached a photo of the wires to the clutch which look like they're not stock.

It looks there are safety switch's on the seat and parking brake. If you have looped the seat switch, that only leaves the parking brake, try that next.

Not sure you should get any reading on the wire with only ignition on (switch off) and would appear there is a continuity fault, however if the parking brake was on, then this may affect it.

Thanks. I’ve tested the parking brake and it’s reading open with the brake engaged and 2 ohms with the brake off. I’ve tried looping it and still nothing from the deck. I’m almost ready to give up but I can sense we’re close.

What westwood 1800, ?, best of luck, have you also got printed circuit did one a few months ago spent a lot of ti8me trying to find out why deck not engaging ended up putting a flick switch and relay in problem is deck still on when leaving seat so it's a case of switching it off if pc is faulty a new one is £130 +, these machines had different wiring so even sane models might be different, relays in pc are held in when button for deck is pushed i can only suggest you use a multimeter to check what wires do.

Just forget the original system and rewire it direct from the battery to the clutch. Run wire from the battery through the seat switch to switch a relay switch and then to earth.Run another thicker wire from the battery through the power side of the relay to the dash switch and on to the to the live side of the clutch. It would be good practice to fuse both connections to the battery for safety.
In operation the dash switch will not work unless you are in the seat just like originally.
