We just use a wood drill in the cordless Milwaukee drill. Works well
My dads got some rusty old augers and they’re relatively easy with the hand drill then he’s bought some new bits to try with our makita drill and generator but they just stall the generatorProper old auger bit rather than modern Chinesium stuff makes a huge difference - I inherited a load & even the blunt/rusty ones cut better than most modern bits. A few weeks back I put a 3/4 hole the long way through a sleeper using a hand brace without breaking a sweat! I think that modern bits don't have the right profile on the cutting edges, the cutting reliefs and flute forms also just don't seem to match up to the old. I reckon that it's because the manufacturers assume the drill will make up for the deficiencies in the bit.
