Anyone care to guess why? And it's not the number of slugs that are around, even though there are a lot of them about this afternoon.

How late is too late? Nice looking wheat BTW?

22nd April, and with very little rain since then I think it's too dodgy so I'll be doing it with my usual opico varidisc/tilth and seeder to move some soil.

Wheat is solstice DD'd into bean stubble on what could only be described as poor soil, some of this has zero indices for phosphate. It's the land where I laid my own drains.

Why not plant a few seeds just a couple of weeks before harvest by hand on a worst case area like headland overlap

If they grow then you could probably get away DD ? If not cultivate ? (Shallow !!)

Trouble is it tends to grow then die later on just to make you think it's OK. Could try planting some now on a bare patch that got flooded out I guess, the atlantis went on after it dried up.

I rather naively applied pacifica in the spring and realised too late that this would probably stuff up my subsequent cc plans. Have belatedly changed plans on other areas and changed planned rotation and made a note to self to try to drill earlier in the autumn and use Atlantis et al in the autumn not the spring in future. Not completely sure sure if this is practical in an autumn like last but am once bitten twice shy.
