What a shame I can't DD this year's rape in

I rather naively applied pacifica in the spring and realised too late that this would probably stuff up my subsequent cc plans. Have belatedly changed plans on other areas and changed planned rotation and made a note to self to try to drill earlier in the autumn and use Atlantis et al in the autumn not the spring in future. Not completely sure sure if this is practical in an autumn like last but am once bitten twice shy.

I'm worried that late Atlantis might hit my cover crops ! At least they would act as a marker to where spring cash crops might struggle ?

No doubt with DD people need to be very careful what residuals are used and when they are used, especially within a diverse rotation, the only way like you say BSH, is get crops in early and try stay in control of your own destiny, not chase problems which we all seem to be doing this season. All we can hope for is a bit of support from upstairs for next few months to help us achieve this?

How much cultivation do you all think is enough if Atlantis or Pacifica (in our case) has been applied this spring to be able to drill OSR in Autumn?

Ironically thinking about it a wet summer would reduce residual in the soil, but thats not in our interest, better to change rotation plan!

It really does make a case for spring breaks vs autumn in a no til situation. I only have a small area of WOSR planned this autumn so if I have to do a light surface cultivation on that area to ensure the rape grows then it won't be the end of the world really

My only concern is the effect on my planned cover crops but its better to loose a cover crop due to residual than a cash crop I guess ! - I see the cover crops as marker crops maybe, highlighting areas where slugs, residuals or structure issue might cause the next cash crop problems. With that early warning system in place there is chance to do something to remedy before drilling and therefore improving consistency of no til ?

Why would a very shallow cult stop problems? is it letting air into the soil that breaks the chemical down, may be being thick but never have understood what cultivations actually do to stop the residual working.

I think just a mixing / dilution of residuals helps ?

Certainly we never had issue over our 18years of mintil

Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid after seeing Centium check whet this spring despite being near 18 months after application !!

Especially with all the rain last year, I think it is one of my main concerns with no/strip till

What do Bayer say about it Badshot, covering their ass no doubt?
We have DD with Claydon and Mzuri after Kerb [on rape!] and spring [April]
Atlantis in wheat no bother as the strip till tine drills disturb soil quite a bit in the seedzone anyway?

Haven't asked them direct just what the agronomist says, and as I've seen some very pretty pictures of overlaps with no rape I'd rather not risk it.

KV tineseeder, don't think I have any pictures of that particular field while drilling though. 150kg/ha seed and no herbs till the Atlantis.
good looking wheat bad shot just interested was that drilled at an angle to old tramlines was thinking of doing the same with my weaving tine drill last year but chickend out !

Yes it was drilled at an angle, it was very dry and hard when combined so there were no wheelings at all apart from tramlines which I levelled with a power harrow. I'm very happy with my wheat this year and I plan to do the same again.
