I think the self-sufficiency at 60% is what we grow, so wouldn't include oranges and bananas, etc. or durum wheat!

It got to be 75% at one point.

In World War II when there rationing the population was healthy, even if the food was boring, and some things were off ration. Butter and cheese were severely rationed, I think 2oz a week for cheese. My mother who lived through it, said rationing was worse for a single person as at least in a family you could pool food and save enough for a pudding or cake sometimes.

There is a large tomato growing facility locally which is heated by an ADC plant.

I doubt we are self sufficient in pork or pork products, although beef and lamb should be OK.

They have alot of preditors that make foxes look friendly .
That goes back to The Last Wolf book that was discussed some time ago. The theory that when the last wolf in England was killed it allowed the national sheep flock to expand massively and become such an important - vital - part of the economy.

Have you seen the size of a timber wolf? Big as a shetland pony. Well it looked like it from my side of the fence.

I posted in another thread about this the other day. During WW2 a lot of the UK's butter and cheese and meat came from other countries, NZ being one of them. Apparently they started rationing here too, not because they had no food but because they wanted to maximise the amount they could send to Britain.
Quite interesting if you've 5 minutes.
