Sensors, how something so small can stop a 600k machine from working at all. . Oh and chuck 200l of hyd oil all over the exhaust and engine 😡

Ridiculous isn’t it? After changing the pressure sensor 3 times on my Manitou and seeing each one fail after a few months leaking oil out of the torque converter I finally just screwed a plug in the hole and shorted the wires together. Never looked back. When it stops it stops, but it hasn’t stopped since.

Electoral Commission red tape.

Every 4 years in our Parish the Councillors have to apply to be a Parish Councillor once again.

This involves an eleven page form, a proposer, a seconder and a signature witness amongst many other personal details.

The completed form must be handed in, in person at the local Town Hall, waiting for checks to be done by pedants.

In my case (as has been the case for 4 out of 6 times that I have done this in the past) there was a shortage of candidates therefore no election.

An acceptance letter then arrives, two sheets, printed one side only.

Then a further letter, two more sheets printed one side, telling me that I must complete a return for electioneering expenses, pointing out that failure to fill in this form (even if there hasn't been an election) will be followed by disqualification from the office of Parish Councillor and proceedings in the Magistrates and then the High Court.

What a load of absolute avocadoes - as the Aztecs call testicles. and a waste of everyones time and resources.

Same here, people can't be bothered with all the paperwork rubbish at the beginning and then are ost to the communities that need them to hold things together.

You have to have lived somewhere for over 12 months to be on the PC. In my opinion that should be 5 years.

In our Parishes the most objections for new housing come from people who live in new housing.

Apparently their previous dwelling was within 3 miles of the parish and so that qualified them to be co-opted on . They moved from Sussex so I understand into rented accommodation till they could find somewhere to buy !

In the days of driving around Europe all the road and bridge tolls could be paid on one dedicated card (all administered from Harrogate in North Yorkshire) - So why oh why do I need need separate accounts, some of which need a £15 per vehicle deposit for Tyne tunnel, Humber Bridge, Mersey Tunnel, Runcorn bridge, M6 toll, Dartford x-ing and Congestion charging, ULEZ, CAZ in 5 separate cities and the rest and a cash “float” in 8 different vehicles just in case.
and soon need a o liesense as well :banghead: :banghead:

That sounds familiar. All ours have been co-opted on. The chairman emphasises to the parish that it avoids the unnecessary cost to the parish of an election. They all clap.
Elections are expensive for a parish, ours would be about 3000 if all seats were contested - a warded Council.

If only the right number or less put themselves forward they have no need to be co-opted, I cannot see who could co-opt new members to a committee that has no 'proper' members.

Lovely to see local democracy at work.

Either people who have never been voted for or people who can't be arsed to put themselves forward moaning when others do so.
...just for the record I did 14 yrs on County and 12 on Parish .
It's a country wide problem when you have new people moving in and want to turn the local village into the same place that they have just left !

The two villages in the parish are now mainly composed of retirees, many of whom are on the PC. They’re basically against anything and are so argumentative amongst themselves that all but two of them have just resigned en-mass, citing irreconcilable differences🤣
They’re called bananas - Build absolutely nothing anywhere near anywhere.

Yep. My wife wanted to get a little play park built on the old (closed) school field (there’s money sloshing round for this sort of thing from a local wind farm). NOOOOO!! Might be noisy for our poor retired ears!!!
They wanted trees to be planted instead (despite it being a heavily wooded area already and this being the one public green space for miles around).
This year, they wouldn’t even ok the money (not theirs) to cut the grass on the old school field before they imploded. strokers😡

Our village functioned best when we didn’t have a Parish Meeting. It’s been hijacked now by the same small minded incomers who got themselves on the PCC and let the church fall into ruin and be closed. They are very good at stopping things and are all procedure and no action. Anyway, try as they might they couldn’t stop my three building plots now happily occupied by self employed local lads and their families, machinery and livestock. Alright they might be a bit messy and noisy but villages were always like that before the retirees arrived and closed everything down. We locals might be considered belligerent straw sucking peasants but we always could and will get things done to keep folk housed, employed and living in a vibrant not a dying community as far as possible. A few wind turbines sensibly sited would finish the job off nicely but they’d go ballistic over that.
