what has the NFU ever done for us?

So why doesn't it get a mention on the main NFU site? The Welsh version is mentioned and linked to but nothing about Scotland. Thanks for the info though.

NFU Scotland (NFUS) is a completely autonomous organisation appointing its own leadership team and having its own staff.
Whereas Wales only appoints a Welsh leader but shares most of the services with England.

I went to my local Co op on Wednesday, having wrote a note to myself in BIG letters 'RED TRACTOR LOGO' on my to do white-board in lieu of my post & sifted carefully through the meat counter. RED TRACTOR logos on all the local meat. I was expecting it to be on the back but it is one of three stamps on the front. Great! happy SS:LOL: Now I know what to look for.

Russel Hume and 2 Sisters used the RT logo on all their meats............ are you still confident that the meat inside the packet is what you think it was ? :scratchhead:

I just rang NFU about house insurance and they were 4! X the cost of who I’ve gone with
I’m lucky enough to be married to an insurance lawyer who, for many years of her career, wrote the insurance contracts, as directed by her client, the insurer. In other words, she was responsible for drafting the ‘small print’ that hardly anyone ever reads, or understands.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from her, it’s that you get what you pay for with insurance..... I would suggest that insurance that only costs 25% of the Mutual’s quoted premium may have some pretty significant exclusions hidden away in it.

I suspect that you actually called the NFU Mutual, they sell insurance. They are a completely separate company/organisation from the NFU. These little things are important :p
But they're nothing like completely separate, at least not if our local branch is representative, a group secretary who will either help you with Agricultural Matters or sell you insurance, perhaps they're doing it wrong.

I think michael N123 may have got a very good introductory deal, good luck to him for that but watch out for a hefty increase next year (whether it is the right policy or not I don't know but the Mutual tends to do just the opposite sometimes giving a loyalty bonus).

At the end of the day it is a mutual with no shareholders to pay and unless anyone can tell me otherwise I don't there is any discount for being a member of the Union - and certainly no better service from the Union for insuring with the Mutual.

The lady on the phone from NfU was fair enough in saying I have no no claims because it’s my first home but it didn’t seem to bother any of the other providers?

You say this but when i,recently, had a quote from the NFU Mutual, the price was subject to us becoming a NFU member. They may well be different companies but are not totally divorced.

Our NFU offices share the same staff with the mutual, the group secretaries are the insurance salesman, the insurances are discounted if you are a member, and some services they will do ( filling in bps forms) only if you are insured with them. They are inextricably linked like it or not.
