What is the widest bay width for a lean to?

I am considering putting up a very simple stand alone lean to for storing billets for firewood. What is the widest bay width any of you have on your farm buildings wider than a standard 20ft bay (or what ever that is in metric equivalent). Shed would be open all sides, BUT "Gale breaker" type material on west facing side to stop some rain but allowing plenty of air to blow through to keep wood aired.

I'm sure I've read on here in the past that Z purlins can be got up to lengths of something like 20 metres. No doubt they'd be pretty hefty and so too would the steels at the end so wether or not it would be cost effective is another matter.

Good Afternoon MX7,

If you would like a quote for some of our material, please give us a call in the office on 01531 637900 and we can discuss the various options to suit your requirements and budget.

Kind Regards,

The Galebreaker Team

If you think a little out of the box you can easily create a 40ft centre between columns if this is your wish by turning the eaves beams into a spine beam to support a centre rafter, then use standard purlins. Will be an expensive shed tho at that. Purlins to span 30ft would be very deep and would have to be continuous over the rafter top for them to work, so in effect they would be 60ft long, not easy to handle or pay for!

That sounds like a beast. Got any pics of it, sounds interesting and good for access.

That looks a great idea for large modern machinery.Did you design/build yourselves or did a steel structure company do it for you.Any idea what size the 40ft long eaves beam is .Hopefully it would carry a 6" deep snow loading, and I seriously mean that.

It was a PDRD shed, he did all the design work.

On our new cattle shed (in the pics section) we had to have one bay that was a 40ft span to clear an obstacle, it added about £400 if that.
