I know, I know! Almost as strongly debated as Forager's v's Wagons...

Im thinking of a new pick up, but as I don't have much experience with them, I thought I'd ask the collective! :)

Shopping List
I cant justify a proper double cab really, but one of those extra cab versions would suit, I never take more than a single passanger, but it's good to know I can if push came to shove, the back seats are handy to chuck a coat, flask, etc on to as well
4WD
Towing Capability, 3T+
Diesel
Manual
Not too fussed by toys, alloy wheels etc, it is a workhorse, not a show pony
Good Load Area
Load Area Canopy, Lockable ideally, easily removable ideally.
Reasonable MPG
Reliability

What to go for, what to avoid...?

Thank you all!

:)

Toyota.if it is a truck you intend to own yourself for any length of time. The rest have indifferent or even poor build quality.

There. You can lock the thread now.

My last Amarok did 150k miles with only a failed EGR valve and routine maintenance, this one is on 65k miles and has snapped the fan belt, which the garage up the road swapped the next morning.

It also drives better than all the rest.

If justifying the extra price of a double cab is an issue then the price of an Amarok will make the OP howl in despair.

3.2. Honestly fords have f***** up majorly with these engines many reports of oil pump failures on the 2.2 and gearbox issues. We’ve just given our last one back before the warranty went. We’re running Toyota now, issue is most of these modern pickups are crap off tarmac. Not like the old fourtrac with a 2.8 or defenders......
