Well at the point when its about to head at 1inch you go in and scalp it with the mower... Hypothetically might propaquizafop take out blackgrass without killing clover?Topping continuously is the worse thing you can do because the blackgrass plants heads earlier and earlier to the point it’ll head at 1 inch high which you can’t top.
Whole crop cereals and grass leys are the only way if you don’t want bare stubbles.
Clethodim is the only ACCase herbicide that would kill blackgrass and that's 2-3 leaf stage, not stem extension or later. If it isn't already resistant to it. Not allowed in CS options anyway.Well at the point when its about to head at 1inch you go in and scalp it with the mower... My worse blackgrass on stubbles. It’s made the problem worse.Stubbles.
I’m still absolutely baffled how viable seed can set before 15thmay. Do you think you got less than 100% control from glyphosate. I think some survived in the bottom of ours and that might be a problem in the thickest patches. More attention to application required here.My worse blackgrass on stubbles. I dont know, it was fully flowering on this farm early April last year, its abit later this year and is just starting to flower.I’m still absolutely baffled how viable seed can set before 15thmay. How long after flowering does seed become viable?? How do you know when seed is set??Letting BG head set seed and cut it before that seed becomes viable will kill it, cutting it as it heads but before it sets seed will make it head again very quickly.
Agree, but the Blackgrass in this stubble went to ear more than a month before I’ve ever seen befor, probably due to lack to crop competition and drought.Iirc niab research shows seed isn't viable till early/mid June at the earliest
Flowering is over a fairly long period per head, ours has had its pollen bits(can't remember their proper name) on the heads for around a week which is earlier than normal so would have set seed in the highest part of the head but dont expect it to be viable for a month yet, barley would be out in ear in a few days normally but won't be ripe for a good number of weeks, second growth from westerwolds we grow will set seed and become viable much quicker than first cut, that's from my observationHow long after flowering does seed become viable?? Ours is in flower earlier than normal this time, it's making me a bit nervous that the Westwood won't be mature enough to cut or the weather right before seed in the BG is viableAgree, but the Blackgrass in this stubble went to ear more than a month before I’ve ever seen befor, probably due to lack to crop competition and drought.
Whereas my cleanest fields were after stubbles and it has certainly be a useful tool.My worse blackgrass on stubbles. It’s made the problem worse.
I know, hopefully it was a one off but it doesn’t seem to have reduced blackgrass on the one farm it’s on but it was the first year of itWhereas my cleanest fields were after stubbles and it has certainly be a useful tool.
As a stewardship option, the ££££ is also the best for the effort needed.
