Yea I agree, one beer down and I worked it out wrong:facepalm:

Still £1600 if you pay £1100 is £500 margin which is the same as paying £900 and getting £1400 back.

And that is why I prefer to buy a £900 bullock. It doesn't have to grade anything special to come to 1400, just weigh. And you will have to keep those two in and feed hard to get them there as they will stand still a while at grass, probably weigh not much more in September.

Someone I know only buys this or better type stirks, keeps 200 or so head, must average £1050+ for them, all get turned out onto grass and some barley/ protein extra, housed next Oct then sold from Dec onwards.

You are right about weight thou, even 380 kilo FRi steers at £3 kilo come back to £1140. ( which doesn't sound much but if you can buy them right there is a small margin in it even thou they aren't nice to look at )

im 100% correct about the 20pk extra for suckler bred cattle, thou some only get the 10pk suckler bred bonus.
If it's st merryn your talking about the 10p suckler bred bonus is more a case of a 10p deduction for dairy bred. The suckler bred price would be on a par with woodheads or abp ellesmere. Can't imagine any of the mainstream companies will be paying 20p more to some producers than others

I agree with @gone up the hill there very good stores but no show potentials!! Be around the £950+ depending on the market!

Why do people think every bbxlim is a show potential these days? all you see in some catolouges these days 'show potential' people think there gona make more money ?

Only way you can hit £3/kg or more with St Merryn on current grid and pricing for dairy steers is for a O-4L or O+ conformation grades.
I doubt very much if anyone sending groups of Fr/Holstein steers is averaging £3/kg

I've got 40 booked into tomorrow ......... I'm not expecting to average £3/kg :(

To be fair I was offered 300p flat rate for some this week but unfortunately do not have any to go. I tried to buy a bunch off farm recently but the fantasist selling them wanted 1.60 a kilo which was about 30p more than they are worth.
