Just wear something smart and make sure the kids enjoy themselves.

Having no previous experience of judging I'd be asking the kids about their sheep as some will just be walking around with a tame lamb

You're judging the child, not the animal ! My suggestion would be smart trousers (not jeans) and a tweed jacket of some sort or smart blazer. The reason for trousers is, especially with sheep I'd guess, you'll be crouching down a fair bit to speak to the youngsters and maybe even help set up their sheep? Am speaking from a little ignorance about sheep judging here - more cattle and dogs!! Because you might be bending down, trousers are easier and prevent potential embarrassing photos.....

Bit of a plea - yes, the child has to be competent, confident and a little knowledgeable about what they're handling but also give credit to those who have difficult animals on the end of their halter if they deal with them well. Seen too many press button 'ponies' (applied to calves/sheeps) where child sails gaily round, eyeballing the judge with a totally false smile (or glare!) while another kid is doing a decent job of encouraging a recalcitrant bullock to behave and can't keep looking at the judge the whole time but gets put down because bullock isn't as well behaved. It's how they deal with the issues that impresses me!

Difficult to withdraw with dignity when the whole county has heard the judge ask you to leave as you're "much much too old."

I'm sorry , I don't care if he is high index, forage reared and has grown half as much wool again as the breed did 20 years ago, you're still too old.......:(

I think there may be some cultural differences creeping in here. Maybe tweed isn't seen the same way in the colonies.
