What would be your dream farming app?

If you could dream up an App to help you in your day to day life what would it be? (Anything from dull as dust practical solutions to almost sci-fi ideas interest me)

I'm taking a computer science masters and have to spend a good part of two summers on a project of my choosing, and I'm looking for inspiration. I took an undergraduate degree in Agriculture and I would love to draw together the two disciplines and create something that would meet a real need (or want) of UK farmers.

So, what would be your dream farming app?

The Ooohhhhh thread playing round and round on a loop. How about that @roscoe erf?

Sorry be serious now.

Farm assurance app? One app that allowed all records for farm assurance to be recorded on the move. I currently use Google sheets for a lot of mine. But others don't know how to use a spreadsheet, even for very basic things.
I will only want a small percentage of the takings for the idea.;-)

Farm assurance should have already created an app for their poxy crap
It would make life easier if we just had some bits to fill in and that satisfied them. Coukd do without an inspection of it all then, just have a quick farm walk to show on the ground all was in order.

It would. It would be what any business would want to do , make the process efficient. But they dont want efficiency they want to perpetuate the playing at work

If you had real time reporting, how would you go back to 'make things fit' afterwards?

Best agricultural app would be one that makes the phone work to make & receive calls, maybe even holding on to a signal for the duration of that call?:banghead:

Recording app for laying birds. I want it to record daily:

Egg numbers laid, first quality, seconds and total.
Egg weight
Feed consumption
Water consumption
Mortality
Shed temperature, max and min
Egg store temp, max and min

It should be able to do this for multiple flocks. Data to be harvested by asking staff the questions on a daily basis, they wouldn't be able to move the app on until ALL data had been recorded. It will trigger an alert (email? On another mobile device with an alert) if minimum or maximum limits are hit.

It would then present it as a series of graphs. It will be remotely accessible, via Dropbox or whatever to view across each mobile device registered to that farm. Like Evernote syncs stuff.

In addition it would have a hidden area where all financial data could be inputted but only those with the passcode could see it, this part may not need to be in the app. If the app could export all production data to an excel sheet it could be merged with the financials remotely in the office.

I don't know how many units you would sell, I've seen a system whereby you use a touchscreen PC fixed to the wall like a giant iPad. They licensed it to you for €0.08/bird per flock which I wasn't keen on. They also accessed your data to alert you when limits were hit. I wasn't keen on someone else seeing my numbers whenever they wanted.

If it could be integrated so that feed/water consumption, temps etc could be taken straight from the sensors, weigh cells and so on that would be great!

Wouldn't want real time reporting, but an app which recorded everything in one place that we could allow access to once a year would be very useful.

Hey, thanks everyone who commented on this, given me some ideas to think about. The angry-birds variant might be quite popular - just not 100% sure it would meet all my course criterea!

A sheep tack app you put in the farm you moved on to the date on and off the number of sheep and the price per week and it worked out the amount you owed automatically

We had our inspection just before Xmas, inspector looked at medicines and took the batch number and expiry off a bottle. Add he stated walking away I took my phone out of my pocket and pretended to make a call, once he was round the corner I took the said bottle out and put it into nlmd and input the details for it quickly into the system  there was talk on the inspection that they are developing a programme or app to comply with their standards too.
