I tried maize for game crop 2 years ago and had the exact same gave up and resowed it with kale

Been using as game crops for 20 years.
Never had this before. Don't think be anything left looking at how many holes.
Any idea what if was?
Just checked 2 more strops.
Another same but other OK.

I only tried it on one acre but there was that much wildlife I couldn’t decide if it was pigeons hares or rabbits
