What's the worst tractor you ever driven?

Talking of steering problems I was a young student at Llysfasi College in the seventies. To my chagrin my mother insisted on calling it 'The Local Farm Institute' which conjured up images of straw chewing yokels wearing smocks and bearing pitchforks aloft.
Anyway, be that as it may, we had been on a ploughing lecture at a field some quarter of a mile from those dreaming spires of the college. Being regarded as 'one of the saner' members of the class ( a somewhat dubious compliment in the light of the fact that our intake was regarded as one of the worst ever encountered in the history of that august seat of learning) I was designated to take home an MF 35X Multi Power with a long three furrow plough attached to the rear linkage.

Those of you who may have driven a 35X Multi Power will know what comes next. Those who haven't will probably also know what comes next: but suffice to say that when you engage High Multi Power at 1700rpm on the highway with a long three furrow plough hanging off the back of a 35X oncoming traffic en route to Ruthin tends to take evasive action.
I still somehow got a credit in my NCA but my reputation as one of the saner members of our intake was mercilessly thrown into the swirling dust of the debating arena.

When I was a pre-college student, the farm had a 135 MultiPower with a dodgy linkage, so you could put it in low, but when you put the lever back in high, nothing happened. It was a favourite trick of one of the other drivers to work the lever without saying anything before work in the morning so it looked as if it was still in high. I remember a brown trouser job when it ran away down a steep hill with a load of bales on the back and the poor stockman came back as white as a sheet. It was a pretty stupid thing to do and not very funny.

If I can bring a little happiness to people as I journey through life then that it is reward enough; no financial payment is expected or required.
However; all donations to the distressed gentlefolk of Dyserth (cheques made payable to me, and crossed account payee only) would of course always be gratefully received. You may rest assured that your valued donation will be put to good use in furthering the philanthropic aims of our worthwhile charity to provide sustenance, well being and care for those poor souls who may be in such a position as to benefit from such largesse.
May God bless you 'Hang On' and whatever donation you may feel able to remit (asap) will be gratefully received.
