Just 11 acres of wheat not drilled after spuds and staying that way.
Wheat would be 6 to 8 weeks before it came through, pigeons, rooks and expensive fert etc!
Will plough it this week.
Spring barley will go in instead.

I echo the comments about corvids and late wheat drilling.

Last January we had a nice dry spell in the New Year, and I cracked on with 200 acres of Cochise spring wheat drilling. It went in a treat. However, once the rooks found it, I was keeping them off with bangers for about 6 weeks before it emerged.
After that, they left it alone.

250 kgs of seed. Apart from the rooks, it was a successful and cheap crop.

No pre-em.
One PGR.
One Herbicide.
One fungicide.
140 kgs N.
2.65 t/acre.
Sold at £258 + £42 premium.

hoping to lift another 20 acre of fodder beet this next week, would like to try and get it back into wheat as I have some seed that needs using up still in the shed.
What seed rates are folks drilling wheat at currently after beet?
Last year we put wheat in December and end of January but went too low a rate and got hammered by birds. The December stuff did ok but the January/feb drilled wasn’t worth doing.
Extase farm saved wheat seed
Put some into some ploughed turf around 2 weeks ago. Still waiting for it to come through although it’s just below surface.
Untreated 235kg/ha.
Would probably go higher now
