Just getting ready for the wind to drop tomorrow then it’s on.
What is the main weeds you are going after?Basis dosage this year is
1l/ha boxer (800g/l prosulfocarb)
0,3 l/ha mateno duo (500g/l aclonifen and 100g/l diflufenican)
In problem areas, boxer is up to 2l/ha. And on some places i will go with 0,75l/ha Atlantis later (maximum legal dose)
There are many products that are used in the uk, we can’t use here.
I am having difficulties translating some of it, but willow herbs, ryegrass and poa annua (latin i think, i can’t find an english word for it) but also grass. What is the main weeds you are going after?
Pos .annua is I believe is what we call manual meadow grass. Others may know better.I am having difficulties translating some of it, but willow herbs, ryegrass and poa annua (latin i think, i can’t find an english word for it) but also grass.
It takes a broad range of weeds if timed correctly, so if succesfull, we only need a light follow up in the spring.
I have silage grass and maize on a large part, so not alot of grain and usually not wheat after wheat. Others with mostly grain and osr, are having bigger problems with grass weeds. Cover crop rules also don’t let us have a lot of winter crops.

We rotate maize, partly for the reasons you mention. A large part with spring crops makes life easier when it comes to handling problematic weeds. Spring barley, peas and most other spring crops are difficult for me, because cover crops in maize means i can’t touch the soil before march. But i also has grass on heavier ground, and 3-5 years with 5 cuts/year, reduce grass weed problems alot also.Having those weeds you mention as a problem would be something many on this forum farming in the UK would regard as living the dream. I used to get annual meadow grass in wheat and would clobber it into oblivion with good spaying using only 3/4 rate atlantis or othello.
Willow herb is a problematic beast, best sorted in your stubbles if at all possible- I would use glyphosate + 2,4D as in kyleo for this.
Make the most of pre-emergence chemistry in your maize as it gives a lot more flexibility with herbicides and timings post-emergence that way.

problems with resistens grasses is a rising problem in most areas in dk now, but it’s easier for me, than for the farmers who need as much grain/ha as possible.
I have a neighbour who has asked a few times, if i would grow maize for a few years on some of his fields, because then can’t do anything about resistant italian ryegrass and it is very bad. But he want full price on rent, so untill now i have passed.
This year he didn’t combine some of it, because it was only grass. I had almost clean wheat, in the field next to it, because i had 4 years with grass and one with maize before. It really help alot.
We only have maister for grass in maize.I don't know if you guys have the chemistry we have for maize but there are some options for grass weed control in maize and as you say a spring crop really does a nice job on it.
Maister in the UK does not contain isoxadifen. That active is not even listed in the 2023 'green book'

i usually go with glyphosat and dff before emergence also.
Maister contains this:

If i was to grow anything on those fields, i would start with grass. The first year maize yield way too little, as we can’t control the grass good enough with glyphosate in year one. I have a few fields in this area, and it takes time to get it under control.Hmmm if your neighbour is having difficulty with ryegrass resistance it is possible that the population in the fields in question will be resistant to maister also. Iodosulfuron-methyl is one of the components in Atlantis.
Hi Serup. Interesting conversation. May I ask what utilises the grass? Thanks. If i was to grow anything on those fields, i would start with grass. I’m not sure i understand your question correct (?) but the grass i grow, is for silage for dairycows.Hi Serup. Interesting conversation. May I ask what utilises the grass? Thanks.
You may not have understood it but you certainly answered it.I’m not sure i understand your question correct (?) but the grass i grow, is for silage for dairycows.
