16 st acre do u really need that amount? Do you not have problems with crops getting to thick and going down later on?

I have significant grassweed issues. The more wheat seeds I can put out to compete with the huge number of grass seeds, the better.

Never had issues with crops being too thick yet, usually wish by spring they are thicker. This spring crops went backwards in the cold spell, but grassweeds kept growing.

Growth regs are the best way to stop crops falling over.

When my agronomist tells me my crops are too thick I will be pleased, and may then consider cutting them back a bit.

What are grain prices like with you atm

Scottish soft Gp4's today trading between £205 and £207 ex for Oct/Nov uplift.
We have seen BYDV in wheat not far away, but it's not a major concern.
Grass weeds haven't been a major problem where the plough is used at least once in the rotation. There are stories of rough stalked meadow grass becoming an issue on some farms, and Cow Parsley is becoming a bit of a problem too.

The weather window for autumn planting up here can slam shut in early October. Most farmers aim to get wheat in the last 2 weeks of September, but as conditions were spot on we pushed the button a week earlier this year. It's easier to manage a forward crop, than to stare at either a mauled in one or a pile of seed all winter.

I'm drilling later than usual. Early drilled crops last year suffered bydv. Only sprayed once which was a mistake. Best yielding wheat was drilled 8th November. Will start on winter barley 8th October onwards them move onto wheat. My neighbour is keeping me busy. 225 acres to prep and drill, started drilling his winter barley today.
