Wheat wholecrop

havent grown anything for wholecrop before, got 18 acres of spring wheat undersown with grass, when should it be wholecropped?

When the grain is at the "cheesy" stage this is when you can squeeze the grain between fore finger and thumb and a white goo comes out of the grain. Seriously consider using an inoculant.

i would say the grain is at a watery stage,crop still looks fairly green,grain size not very big in the heads

The grain should reach full size before it's fit but before it goes hard. If you pull off the outer coating of the seed, the inside of the grain will be white
and have a texture similar to cheddar cheese.

What would it be worth to sell to someone who will come and chop it and take it away?

would wheat normally be a bit later than barley for wholecrop,most folk have all the barley wholecrop done round here,i think ours is struggling a bit,some of the stalk leaves are very yellow like could be didease

Spring sown wheat for wholecrop would normally have been coming off for the past week but it's all a bit late this year. We had quite a few orders for inoculant to treat wholecrop barley over two weeks ago.

I would advise going for wholecrop a bit early. I always seem to leave it a bit late, and it goes from cheesey to hard in a matter of hours!
