Righto which order does the collective consider best?
1 drill roll muck
2 muck drill roll

Its broiler muck just 2 weeks old.
Please don't say plough it in.

I find it best to apply immediately afterwards. Depends a bit on the drill type and type of muck, but I got caught out once with wet muck (cattle FYM) blocking the drill ( tined) even though soil conditions were ok. The weather was against me and it wasnt going to dry out and I wished I had not put the muck on! Does put the pressure on getting it spread afterwards though!

What will you be drilling? It is not a black and white thing, but having nearly been caught out I now plan on spreading afterwards. That is not to say it is wrong to spread before. Given the dry conditions now there is probably no harm in spreading now.

Will be drilling SB . Busy with the paying job at the moment so waiting is an option. The weather is going to stay dry (according to the soothsayers) I am a very indecisive person , my concerns on spreading before is lack of traction pulling the drill uphill and the mess on the roller if it goes damp. Against that driving around on a young plant.

Muck drill roll.
A low rate of poultry litter won't make any difference to traction, it's normally quite dry material anyway. The drill will incorporate it a bit, but the smell will hang around for nearly a week if most of its on top. I normally book the spreaders for the day I want to be drilling and follow straight with the drill.

Anyone put cow slurry with umbilical after drilling?
I put about 30m3/Ha on 5 days before direct drilling second wheat. Slurry had been through a separator. Field was steepish in places and quite wet and struggled for traction and had hair pinning problems. Not sure how much this was due to the slurry. Drill was a 4m Moore unidrill .

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
