When to take calves off heifers

Was wondering what folks thoughts are on when to take a calf off freshly calved heifers.

sooner the better, they settle down quicker.

I give them 24hrs to suck, then out to robot, for the calf's sake. No major issue with temperament. The one that's going to be the bitch in the parlour, is the one that won't let the calf suck, I find. If they're going to be sharp, they'll be that way anyway. But I'd rate letting the calf do the first teat touching as more positive than negative.

We take them away at the next milking, provided she's licked the calf.
