Which Cordless Drill

[Old Tip]

My 15 year old Hitachi drill is in perfect nic but the batteries wont hold charge anymore so looking to replace it but the choice is endless. I don't do a lot of work but its handy for the bit i do round the farm and its bad to do without as just been using the power one and tripping over the extension cable constantly is a pain in the butt.

Any suggestions

Not cheap but Milwaukee for me, boss bought a dewalt set last year which seems good as well but I prefer red.

Makita . Got 18v combi drill. Not cheap but quick release chuck is brilliant on some jobs when you need to change bits over.

Got Makita 18v here and very pleased with it. Wasn't silly money either.

Milwaukee are very good too. @RWG Contracts seems to really rate their gear. I begin to wonder if he's got Milwaukee red blood!

Again Makita is up there, dad's got one had number of years £149 I think from toolstation but only one battery and it's a 3 or 4ah compared to the 5's that I've got.

Which ever, just make sure its a standard battery that fits all the tools in the range.
ryobi one +, i know they are not cool but my drill has been quietly breeding,
the family now includes a sabersaw, a circular saw, a grinder a hammer drill,and
a couple of torches a spot light.
saving up for a little lithium bat and a big lith bat now as the nicads are about nacked.
nobody has ever said the hole i have drilled is no good because it was not drilled by a posh make

Hexagonal drive pull back type, not the screw type you are thinking about.

They're setting the standard for performance and battery life.

Two year warranty when you register the tool.

Only problem you may get with them is the addiction to buying more tools that work off the same batteries....

I now have an impact wrench, hammer drill, grease gun, sawzall, and the utterly brilliant cordless grinder

You have had a Hitachi for 15 years and the batteries are now at the point of not holding a charge?
So it seems another Hitachi would be a good idea!
I have three hitachi and can't fault them.

I would get some fresh battries but at £50 each it seems a bit steep for an oldish drill, may give the charger an overhaul and see if that makes a difference @Grassman

Another vote for 18v Makita here. Have 2 combi drills, impact driver, skill saw, and an SDS. Unbranded batteries from Amazon seen good so far too.
