Which Forager?

Good evening

I am looking at changing our forager out for a new one and narrowed it to either an 8200 Deere or 840 Claas. It'll be used on grass only on our own dairy farm.

The dealers are both equally strong and although I haven't had a final price on the Jaguar yet it's looking like the deal will be broadly similar, although the JD has more finance subsidy, longer warranty 35hp more.

How are the 8000 Deere's going generally? The Jaguar is a known quantity and I would assume resale value will be stronger, although looking around the 8000 Deere's seem to be holding on much better than the old 7050's.

New Holland is out of the equation, and Krone's base machine is still too high spec for what we are after.

Many thanks.

If you intend on doing much maintenance yourself the claas is the simpler easier too work on machine in my opinion and got a lot more widely available information on it

Claas would be the better buy, better to work on worth more second hand, better crop flow & more compact machine , Deere foragers have came on a long way but i think thry are still playing catch up .

Claas will be cheaper than the deere , also the claas is far more user friendly with regards to maintenance, the deere drum still gives me nightmares decades later with regards to the time it takes to set up

A contractors

This is a realistic suggestion but if you have a sizeable herd and are doing multiple cuts it gets expensive fast. Farms of this kind of scale may also already have the labour on hand as well which makes a contractor less of an option, unless of course you just have the chopper and driver in.

What do you mean buy financial subsidy? Is that a fancy way of saying it’s cheaper?

Funny how in all owner interviews the fr owners all are happy with them with no issues yet the claas owners etc always say there's problems with this or that. Maybe the very latest claas are OK.
The FR market share is probably 5% the claas market share is probably 60% that’s why you hear more of the claas faults…

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
