After having another Spaldings conversion kit on a banger destroy its self in spectacular fashion, I’m looking for a new gas gun.
Has anyone got any recommendations please ?

having spent the last 2 months regularly on a cycle of repairing my 5 Portek bangers, I would suggest steering well clear of those. Ive got Mk1, 2 and 3 and they are all so unreliable, there is always one not working. I also have 3 Truecraft bangers which came from Spaldings, which are much more basic, but have been trouble free in the past 2 years I've had those, although I can't find them on the spaldings website anymore. I will try one of the Techneat ones I think, as Ive given up trying to repair 1 now.

Porteks have good chassis but appallingly unreliable electronics. I've fitted Spaldings conversion kits to mine & they work well.

The Truecraft whole bangers are available on their website:

Id recommend fairbang have several cheap and pretty reliable. Good on spares and help too.

DO NOT buy fairbang they are the biggest heap of sh1t ever. I am still mentally scared buy these things. Most stupid design ever designed to trap as much moisture round the controls. If you want to get fit plodging across wet fields in the rain to try make the fecking things work then crack on! Jesus they are on a level with Iae water trough service boxes and should be scrapped.

5x Porteks (2-3 yrs old) here and not one working at the moment. Terrible things. 3 x Fairbangs (10 yrs old) all working as long as they have a scent battery.

These are good bangers!

I bought a Bangalore 5 or 6 years ago after enquiring on here.

Certainly not the cheapest banger on the market but in my opinion the best.
I have it running on a bit of December sown wheat with 6 weeks now.
The only day it hasn’t operated perfectly is when it was blown over by a storm, mine is attached to a separate battery and the clips popped off.
Really well made, they use a car spark plug which is in where blowing rain can’t get at it.

I spray painted mine as I didn’t think the paint job was good enough for our coastal location.

I wouldn’t buy any other brand again.

We have three Porteks never had a problem with a good loud bang. They don't have the legs just sit on the floor. Had the spaldings ones which go rusty, go wrong and cost too much if the electronics fail.

In the market for some new gas guns as ours are starting to get a bit tired! Has anyone had much luck with the Portek Mk.4?
We bought one last autumn. It sat on the rape all winter, made a good loud bang. My only criticism is that you have to set everything via an app, no manual option. It’s ok until your Bluetooth won’t link! Much prefer setting up the Spaldings gas gun and they’re just as loud.

We have two of the Spaldings ones, nice an light for carrying and not been any trouble. However I would say don’t bother with the small battery’s they offer to go with them unless you want to go and charge it every other day!

I see, I was wondering if the reliability of the Mk4 was any better than the Mk3s... It seems a lot of TFF users have had issues with Mk3 Portek reliability! Tempted to go Bangalore as they're only in Fulbourne which is down the roach from me!
