Which gps?

Thank you, handy to know. I've never quite understood the benefits of soil zoning.....but I guess it could help reduce sampling within a field, or at least make it less prone to errors and might highlight areas that are worth questioning. Yield maps are probably a little similar in terms of zones also I guess.

Apply all P/K as non-bagged here so as @Andy Howard is goes on flat rate regardless.

Generalisation but within the same block of land to a degree yes. I guess the EC scans group soils, and it follows that soils of the same type in the same field will have similar analysis.
Certainly much better intel than a blunt basic soil sample

Wont it depend on the landscape?
A field can be all the same soil type but if it is rolling land then there is a good chance there will be a vary in nutrients will it not??

Yes your right and that's why I said I was generalising but to some extent I can see a relationship on the bits of ec scanning we have done vs tests

Going back to the original question !
It depends how much you want to spend, personally I would rather spend out on a decent steering system for drilling, then VRA could be carried out with something simple like a Nomad.
But if you want autosection, steering and VRA on spray/spread tractor as well then you are looking at maybe putting a fmx 750/1000 or similar in each.
Without any knowledge of your farm size, enterprises and labour, I would suggest applying to the reopened ffis to put 2 decent set ups in each tractor as anything else will be a compromise, if you get the grants as well you won't regret it in the long term !!

Unfortunately FFIS is now limited to one GPS unit per holding.

Thank you everyone for your input. I have only one holding and have put in an application for FFIS. I am hoping to get a grant and if successful will put one fm setup in the sprayer tractor. This will be RTK steered with vra. It will connect to the sprayer for section control and the spinner for vra fert. We then will buy a platform kit (2k!!) for the magnum and move the bits into it for cults and drilling. Should give a future proof setup and if we find we cannot live without gps we can buy another kit. Shame Intelliview 4 will not support the kit yet, would be a lot less boxes in the cab and egnos would be accurate enough to start with.
Thank you all again, just hope I get the grant!!

What make of GPS have you applied for? I've got my 3 quotes together just got to submit the paperwork on Monday. My experience of government grants is that they promise lots but never pay out on some minor technicality. Fingers crossed.
