Which hedge cutter

We are looking at getting a hedge cutter, either Bomford, shelbourne, McConnell or spearhead.
Our tractors are 120hp, which brand would people reckoned and also models/extras. No budget at the moment as we are just looking.

We are incidentally currently pricing up a new hedgecutter, has to be at least 6m VFR telescopic, had prices from McConnel and Shelbourne, talking £25k+vat range. McConnel is a lighter machine, only needs 80hp but ironically a 80hp tractor wouldn't be heavy enough hahaha.. but anyway. Interested how you get on

Also I see you not considering twose? Our current is a twose 625T and has been brilliant, only considering changing because wanting a VFR, getting older and the standard position is causing neck/back ache now

Speak as l find, we've used all the major players, and shelbourne are very well made and there support has been above and beyond. Would say though Bomford are nice machines, but Mcconnel I'd save your money had two, both older secondhand machines but very noisey and getting parts bit of a lottery and bugger help from them on a persistant problem.

I just got a quote for a 5 meter Bomford machine list price £21000 for £10750 I have never bought a hedgecutter before but thought that was a fair deal

Why VFR ? We have one now, and unless you do hundreds of hours stick to conventional they are very, for want of a better word top heavy and not for hilly, sloping ground unless you have a 250hp tractor to carry it, both you do have the best of both worlds,

We do up to 3000 acres a year.. so could say hundreds of hours! Weight is not such an issue, sits on a 6910 all winter. The twose is a 1.5m head and have no issues with it fully extended on some really bad (slope and soft) land round here, this last winter was exceptionally bad haha, literally sinking in on 700s while was sat having a cup of tea.

Would probably even put it on our 7530, reluctant too currently because would want/need new guards making, probably a bonnet cover if went VFR

Plenty to go at then,... 6910 wouldn't carry our VFRT on anything but flat ground, 7530 wpuld be perfect, it not really the weight so much as the angle when you swing the weight forward, you tend to have the weight lifting the back corner rather the back wheel as on a conventional trimmer. Oh and axle bracket are a sensible option baring in mind there is considerably more metal in the second arm of a VFR(T)

Ran plenty of McConnell machines.

6065 VFR on a 6330 and she is absolutely fine

We priced up a 6565T VFR, can't get a 6065 telescopic, though to be fair we only wanted telescopic because we found 6m+ non telescopic have massive second arms that block view of head.. that kind of gets eliminated with VFR so maybe don't even need telescopic.. might have to ask for a demo.

It is awesome, such a great machine, better in tight lanes (it can go back as well as forwards) so no need for orbiter head. Really versatile, mine is on axle brackets but comes with 3 point linkage A-frame too.
