Which is best, lime dust or lime granules

25kg bags? That sounds mental expensive.

Not much choice when this is your kit for contracting. As previously said my customers cannot get powdered lime spread on 1acre. I can’t get big bags delivered to jobs so 25kg bags are the only option.

In that scenario you have to use what makes sense. Granules and bags I don't see how else you could do it.

But for regular farmers throwing granules about strikes me as very expensive for far less neutralising value.

I’ve often thought about it, but not sure how the logistics would work for doing 1 acre or less paddocks. I usually end up spreading 25kg bags @£60/acre
I meant spreading small awkward areas with ground lime the spreader seems to be the hard bit,
It would be hard job Getting a lorry load tipped at base
Need just a smooth concrete pad for the lorry and a sheet chucked over it. Loader bucket up.

Then redistributed as and when
Just then need to pick a day with the wind low and the right direction:whistle: if awkward as in near houses or stables....

Last calciprill / glime I used still dusted a but in the fert spreader when spreading but actually some of the prills were still intact and not dissolved at all after almost 12 months and all that rain from sept till march so they didn't neutralise anything let alone quickly, was on Fodder beet that j wanted a quick raise on small acreage

Sad how times have changed . My friend in the village , passed away a few years ago , only took his lime spreader off to bale small bale hay ,was a full time job, local co.op had a pile of lorries on the job employing local lads , what wonderful memories. We had some laughs . That's when the lime sub was on , can remember him coming in the 60ts with a Fordson Major 4 wD

Granules have their place for small jobs, steep areas a contractor won’t do, very basic maintenance when pH is t low or for short term lets.

Just DO NOT be fooled into being told granules are better, ground finer, are “stronger” or will work better than a good quality ground limestone.

It will not and cannot work better. It’s EXACTLY the same stuff.
