Keep getting different answers to a problem with water pressures. i remember Pascal's vases in science. arguably the head is the same on both so makes no differance

The outlet tap is the same height in both.
the pipe size and run is the same
the water level in tank is the same.

all things are thus equal other than exit from tank. 1) has more gravity but less head. 2) is opposite.

I don't think it will make much difference but option 2 is more helpful logistically

2 has greater head therefore flow. Head difference between water level and tank outlet or am I over thinking the situation
No, Head is the same in both, since the level of the water surface above the outlet is what creates the head, therefore deadheaded pressure at the tap should be the same.

The fact that 2 has more pressure at the pipe inlet will probably help a little, it has full static pressure for the full pipe length, as opposed to 1 which has reduced static head in the first portion of the pipe, and also more length which will also be detrimental, although you probably wont notice much difference in actual flow.

2 is also better since you can utilise the full capacity of the tank as reserve.

I’d go for 2. Pressures will be the same but flow likely marginally higher for 2.

if the tank ever runs dry airlock problems might be a consideration I guess.

Go for option 1 but put it on a heap of pallets so the outlet is the same height as option 2. That will give the best flow, and full use of the tank

The obvious thing from new is to do 2 I think

The set up is actually both, 2 outlets from same tank.

The pipe run is pushing 1km.

The tank is 110 m3. Dont ask me why, I was told it was 20!

I think I need to splice pipe from 1 in 2 so I can get more use of the tank

Will the tank be used to settle junk from rainwater? Might be an idea to draw higher up and pump the junk from the bottom with a submersible maybe beyond what I know about to be honest

It’s cleaned water for residential use. Sediment isn’t a worry but boreholes and anything to do with them is!

Looks like I’ve got to faff about trying to find pipes and splice old into new now. The joy

An easy way to sort out a lot of water issues with flow and pressure is to fit a large pressure vessel at the using end , a 500 litre vessel will give quite a big buffer

That’s one method but they serve a lot of houses between them so high costs.

The best solution is to abandon the tank and fit a smaller one further up hill and then install a larger bore pipe down to old tank and T it off to existing two outlets I think.this is going to take some time though, I was hoping for a quick fix but no such thing here, as usual!

If you do 1 you'll have stagnant water in the bottom of the tank.

2 is generally best.

Think the better option is to do 1 but put a pickup pipe into the tank so that you dont have the stagnant water but any crud in the bottom of the tank is left in the tank whereas with 2 the crud is allowed to go along the pipe and block up the pipe wherever there is a low spot. Obviously the pickup pipe will act as a siphon.
