What's the standing power like for sienna for anyone that's grown it for a heap .
You may have to zoom in but this is some of our Sienna. I took the photo mainly because I wanted to remind myself of the straw yield. And after a dodgy start with having heavy rain just after the drill left the field over the easter weekend it ended a great crop.
It stood well, not many heads cut off onto the ground like other varieties in the past.
good bouts of straw there wat size of header is that?
Didn't really get a fair chance to be honest. Was drilled in first week of May. Both fields after long term ley and had been wrecked out wintering cattle on them before ploughing. First field did alright. Didn't get copper and had a long dry spell where it was stressed. Second field went flat from side to side. Agronomist decided to put on canopy at flag leaf rather than ccc. Which I blame although he's never admitted anything. Another field seed concerto after ley did same.How about Scholar
@Chae1 grew it last year
Canopy won't do much at flag leaf, 3c would be better on at t1Didn't really get a fair chance to be honest. Was drilled in first week of May. Anyway in conclusion, I would say scholar would out yield propino. We've been stuck at 3t/acre with it and large proportion of field that didn't go flat yielded well over 3t. Less straw than propino which is a drawback for us. Going to try some again this year. Think Planet would be better as higher yield and plenty straw.

I know. Should have said at time and hopefully both learned a lesson. Would have sprayed about 160 acres that looked like going flat. 60 acres with canopy rest with delsee which is ethephon based . 40 acres done with canopy went flat side to side.Canopy won't do much at flag leaf, 3c would be better on at t1
Mark and Richard. That what you thought?!@Devon James who does your crop walking? Have a sneaky feeling I know who..
Growing Westminster this year, was really disappointed with sienna last year compared to it but might give it another chance depends what acreage I grow. Have also bought several tonnes of ovation to try. See how it goes.
What's wrong with Laureate?Was speaking to a grain merchant last night who had a customer grow a 4t/acre crop of Sienna last year and said there was loads of straw too. Sounds similar to what @Devon James has posted.
Told me this after a sharp intake of breath and tooth sucking in response to me saying I was going 100% Laureate!
What's wrong with Laureate?
Yes. Don't grow barley on fluffy black! If you have to do as you suggest and roll seed bed to death.First year for us growing spring barley. Have opted for Irina, on some very light, fluffy, black fenland soil. Does anyone have much experience on this soil type?
Planning on going easy on the N, and full works on the PGR.
