Which tedder?

Im looking at getting a new tedder, probably an 8 rotor. Which brand would everyone recommend?
Needs to be reliable and good at holding onto its tines.
Currently have a 6 rotor Vicon needed trading in.

We had a 6 large rotor Lely and swopped it for a 8 small rotor Krone which is near enough the same width.
Krone moves all the grass better and makes hay quicker, in my opinion, but I think it is rotor size not make.

If we needed a wider machine it would have more rotors not larger ones.
The extra cost of 8/6 was soon saved.

As above, little rotors seem to work much better. shifts just about all the grass on the first pass, where the wider rotors by their nature are inclined to miss the centre bit on the first pass. These can turn up as green lumps when the whole lot should be fit. The 6 rotor krone tedder I ran was strong and gave no trouble, changed to a small rotor Kuhn which gave a better result but the digidrives are smaller and more prone to wear.

The arms of the Kuhn bend to easily and the digi's as said but the rest of the machine is not too bad. It is 13meter wide so very fragile in the wrong hands..

Am i right in thinking a Lely will be a Massey Fergusson by brand name now?

Not exactly, no. Agco bought Lely but looks like the only range they were interested in were their round balers. The Lely design of tedders, rakes and mowers are no more, the closest you will get will be a Malone as they are using hooked tines.

Massey Ferguson and Fendt rakes and tedders are Fella designs, I believe that their mowers might be new Agco designs.

I bought a Massey 8 rotor tedder last year and so far can't fault it. It makes a good, even job and seems very well built.
