I know. Father used to say ‘ you will come back into fashion if you wait long enough’ he was right you knowJoking apart it’s been very noticeable up north that the Suffolk x Cheviot or blackie lambs are selling for a premium over the texel x Cheviot or blackie lambs if you compare like for like
I’ll tell my dad too did out his cowboy boots and flared trousers shall I?I know. Father used to say ‘ you will come back into fashion if you wait long enough’ he was right you know

I remember a breeder being asked about a shearling he’d bought the previous year in the early 90s and he said “I went to look for him on Christmas day and all he had was a big pair of ears”What’s complicated about putting a hopper out and keeping it topped up with loader bucket?
I remember someone being asked about the progeny of a ram he’d used, when he was at Builth selling yearlings. He wasn’t at all complimentary about the arseless things, which were apparently just stood around the creeps eating all day (this was March born lambs in September, destined for shearling sales the following year).
By the next year, they were as good a pen of shearlings as I’ve seen, and the prices matched that.
One major fault in the Suffolk is that their ears are certainly too big. They live long enough, but the longer they live, the more likely they are to suffer severe ear deformity.I remember a breeder being asked about a shearling he’d bought the previous year in the early 90s and he said “I went to look for him on Christmas day and all he had was a big pair of ears”
I see a cross tup made £5800 ,figure that one out.
depends what he was crossed with i suppose , texel ?The report from Longtown who sold the above tup said:
The highlight of the sale was the pen of Beltex cross tups from A. Taylor, Heathery Hall; a pen of power, length, skin and shape, turned out to perfection by Alfie & Ann. The pen was topped by ‘Billy the Kid’ a three-quarter Beltex ram selling at £5,800 and breaking the Kelso record for a cross bred ram. He sold to Messrs Roots, Kilnford Croft.
Shrek by the look of it!depends what he was crossed with i suppose , texel ?
