I was at Silsoe down the road a bit, shuttleworth were our arch enemies.

I have found memories of night time excursions to remove certain items from the grounds or farm…..

Ed Bennet holding court in the Hare.
Al Costley ‘Dipstick’ holding a tutorial on a cutter bar mower. Pointing to eponymous item on the gearbox and asking “What is that?” Long silence from first year students.
”That, gentlemen is the oil probe.”

My self, OND, 76-79. Then worked on college farm, under David sharp, married Old Warden girl, (only two to choose from), and stayed locally,

Is the Al Costley Alan Costley who was at Harper when I was there in the 80’s? We used to call him the silver fox.

Doubt it, he was Alistair,

Saw Pete Homer last month, first time since 1989. He’s construction project manager on the Navara Oat Mill being built in Northants.
Alistair Costley died quite recently.

That’s sad news. As a first year living in Hill House I have fond memories of Al - so laid back that he was virtually horizontal.

I did a year there, and now return most years with the Hot rod Show
