We have a meeting next Wednesday when we should be able to get some things sorted. The main issue is that they feel my father cannot live on his own something we do not disagree with and have had a live in carer lined up from the start. We are three months down the line the care he has had in hospital has been intermittent and he should have been allowed home months ago. When I am overseas it has been very difficult to get the hospital to contact me they seem to think email is some form of blackmagic. We had a meeting about two weeks ago I said I had to go back to Kenya so could we arrange the next meeting in a fortnights time to enable me to attend to business they arranged it within a week. It's been a real battle trying to run his farm and my own something that would be difficult if they were in different counties let alone countries. If you have not already spoken to one you need to speak to the discharge planning nurse and make sure your father has been allocated a social worker. The problem occurs when doctors still want to investigate and treat when reality the patient and family feel they will be better at home. They get locked in a loop. The discharge planning nurse should be the patients advocate, and assist the patient getting the discharge they want. and ask why things have not been done to aid discharge.
Sometimes they just see the condition not the patient and family.
