why are people so stupid

Most people on seeing blue lights now just freeze and stop right there. Don't have any clue on what to actually do. In some respects maybe that is for the best.
Herself used to do this, but has been educated NOT to do that any longer... If coming from behind, then speed up to locate a suitable pulling in spot, but TBH, ambulance and fire engines will rarely be travelling as fast as a car outside 30/40 MPH zones anyway.

If coming straight on, then by all means slow a bit to allow the blue lights and easier overtake of oncoming traffic.

That is my take, anyway!

I think one of the contributing factors to this is the number of drivers on weed. The numbers I’ve encountered over the last few months is staggering.
Local traffic cop we know, now retired said that there has been a massive rise in drug driving over the past 4-5 years. The increase in busts is partly because of quicker drug testing on the scene.

Agreed. If I am on a not-busy main road and I hear sirens behind me, I tend to speed up until I can find somewhere to get out of the way. Ambulances and fire engines don't seem to do high speeds anyway as you say.

Just stop oil lot really bright invading premiership final (rugby)
Rightly booed, Tom curry helped one off the pitch apparently, cameras panned away 😆 got hell of a cheer!👍
Great pic on one paper, Torygraph I think. Curry practically carrying him one handed. I did think the Steward's tackle on the one gobshite was high mind.... And it looked as if Jono Ross was ready to drop one if he came near him :)

Main thing is to let a blue lights responder know that you've seen them and are taking proactive measures e.g. keep close to the nearside and put your left hand indicator on

The difficult one is when they are overtaking towards you . Here I tend to watch the reactions of those vehicles coming towards me and potentially being overtaken. As soon as you know the lead vehicle is slowing down, I may yield quite quickly with my arm out of the window to try to stop a donut overtaking me or the other lead car facing me . Sometimes I will flash to sign I've seen the responder and I am making space by yielding and may help the oncoming other vehicles to take note of what is looming in their mirrors

The issue always is my forward horizons and the responding vehicle is WAY ahead of most others who then wake up and freeze . 200W yelpers and alternating headlight flashers only seem to work for some.

At the end of the day the responding vehicle will make sufficient allowances and do their best to get through

I've no issue with motorbikers- I tend to let them pass as you are never going to be held up by one of them.

Cyclists seem to think they own the road.
And we often wave a thank you too.

If you see a leg come out in the breeze, it means the same thing, but the rider is giving it beanz and cannot let go of the bars. 😏

Unless it's @Wood field on his ageing brit machinery, when if he let go of the bars, the bike would fall over. ;) And TBH, the bike will not be overtaking much either... Fordson Dexta maybe??

Had 6motorbikes attempt an overtake while on the tractor the other day.the first 4 got past and immediately turned left at a junction a few yards in front of me.

I say 4 turned left the 3rd and 4th only made it as I was hard on the brakes, if I hadn’t done there would have been broken motorbikes, broken bones, and tomato sauce everywhere followed a short while later by the air ambulancE.

the 5th and 6th bikes realised I was too far past the junction for them to make it (I was continuing straight on not turning on or off a road and doing nothing wrong) so got level with me and had to then stop at wrong side of the road.

motorbikers as a rule I find to be switched on and onow what there doing. This lot however musta escaped from the local nut house
Nothing worse than "bikers" in a group. The competitive element soon creeps in and then bad and stupid things happen....

Had bikes all my working life, summer and winter , started on an fs1e flat out at an indicated 45 ! You learn to appreciate the road conditions, I back off in the truck on damp roads , it’s habit due to my biking days , new cars are all abs , traction control and whatever else , often see cars at silly speed hitting wet corners and cringe , I think they have a false sense of security
100% spot on.

I can see that my lad has aquired some of the ability to read a road better than many users.... riding a bike innit.

Cheeky so and so , I have to start them before I can wobble away

And then there's dickheads at the petrol pumps, in a queue you see a guy coming back from paying, and spends 5 mins doing god knows what before moving off, probably filling his expense claim form in or trying to figure out how to reset his trip counter.

And he's only put £29.21 worth of fuel in. o_O And it takes him about 45 seconds to manage to find and successfully attach his seat belt before he starts his car.

Now we know why you live on the top of a big hill Dave! Plenty of bump start potential for the more... mature rider! ;)

If it hasn't fired by the time you reach the Valley floor, it's probably never going to.... Speaking as a former Bantam owner!!
If they don’t start after running down this hill, they will end up in the canal!

In the States every car automatically yields , we should have the same here
Sometimes you would help most by making continuing progress until a clear opportunity for the emergency vehicle arises.
Although when I did this at a red light junction when the blue lights and sirens were blocked by myself i ended up with an automatic fine - so I decided to let it go to the magistrates - ended up costing me more than double ….🤦🏻‍♂️

Never again - they can wait……
