WHY DONT CHILDREN GET MEALS AT HALF TERM ?

WHY? whats changed since i was at school , yes many years ago, but whats happened and how much more has the state got to do now with child care will they be washing clothes next ? if people cant be responsible for their children well sign them over to the state at birth and forego any sort of govt handouts ? sounds pretty serious but why isnt there a serious debate where the responsibility and money money money, you know what this will not last long now ?

And not to put too fine a point on it, when discussing child poverty why do the media usually feature interviews with parents who are morbidly obese, complaining about the fact they cant afford to feed their children?

If we can afford to pay wealthy adults to fit on their fat arses on furlough, then we can afford to feed poor kids.

To tie it to 'Agricultural Matters': It would be a far far better thing for the NFU to be campaigning for school meals to be made from British ingredients, than this doomed 'produced to our standards' thing.

I think genuine ones who have recently hit hard times due no fault of their own should have the help. It's the ones that say they can't feed their 5 kids whilst in the background is a healthy well fed looking Staffordshire Bull Terrier or similar licking its balls next to the loaded Ashtray that f**k me off.

Consequences for actions etc... But then maybe they've hit the tough spot since all this began.. It's tough to differentiate.

You are correct in your comments.I am in a quandary as to where all of this money is coming from,perhaps a deity will appear with loaves & fishes to sort it ? Very unlikely,it will be down to us taxpayers once again,if we have any business/s that make a sum that is taxable.

This unfortunately. Most have iphones, sky tv and smoke!!! Another major problem we have in this country is that the parents have no idea how to shop let alone prepare and cook. They've been bought up on ready and fast food from the corner shop and carry on with this extortionately expensive way of eating feeding children on packs of crisps, pizzas, ready meals etc when a bag of sbuds can be got for £6 etc and supermarkets are always marking things down!!! A lot do but too many don't / can't or won't prepare and cook!

Everyone with young children these days in state schools will know of at least a few children where there’s dolers, never worked a day In their lives, multiple children from often multiple fathers/women etc go on holidays all the time yet those of us that have a traditional family with the same parents for both children and still happily married with successful jobs etc have few of the luxuries that the dolers have but at least mine are very well fed, almost ad lib and are always happy. School meals are the majority of the time, my 2 prefer sandwiches 4 days out of 5 when in school. 2 weeks for half term here too so double the payout...

There are some extremely vulnerable kids in this country, there are some idiot parents who fail them and a system that fails many, but thats no reason not to look out for those who need wider support when they are failed by the system or their parents. Is despicable that in 6 months we can borrow £3k per every citizen in the UK to deal with Covid but cant find a few quid to look out to those who need it. I suspect Boris thinks all parents use Ocado or Hello Fresh to feed kids during holidays, if not they can pop down to their local Waitrose...

Child benefit is £30 per week I believe?

my wife has just sat down and created a good healthy menu for a child on Tesco online shopping and it can be done for under £20 - if you went to Aldi or Lidl it could be done for even less

people don’t know how to shop for and cook actual ingredients. Education is the problem here not money imo

Taught how to make a pizza when 11 in school but absolutely nothing after that in school.. I can’t cook, drives the wife nuts but she is extremely good. I am learning basics but do tend to follow instructions to the minute and always overdo pork, sausages and chicken probably double the time so I can’t get the blame if were ill

I've said it for ages You're better off being a numpty. You get rewarded heavily for it. Free this Free that both now and later in life with Pension Credits etc.. Care homes etc.

Like I say I'm mixed on the free school meals... I should imagine there's a lot that will need it since Covid then there will be a lot that haven't missed out on single penny since Covid it would of hit their accounts as normal and to them it will be a nice bonus to to save them bothering on pondering on paying for some basic food shopping.

Normal run of the mill meals we can do weekly shop here for three of us at Aldi for £40 easily including toiletries, cleaning products ect that you pick up during weekly shop. I prepare and cook every meal we have and usually in batches to last two days and freeze rest for following weeks, repeat the pattern weekly. Right place at right time in these shops and pick up the mark downs it can be even less.

Yes, we all go for a few bottles wine, a steak from time to time, some chocies etc but they're not the necessities.

there was a story here few yr ago that a chap turned up at Dundee foodbank with a van full of potatoes to donate. Got turned away coz they didn’t think the customers would know what to do with them

It's a complete load of bollox; watching look north with whingeing obese parents. I've only got 2 sausage rolls left in my fridge and I've 3 kids......well, if the kids look like her, a few meals without, will work wonders. If you can't afford to rear kids, I'd be happier funding condoms to stop you sprogging. TBH you wouldn't want to be a kid being reared in these households.
I'm still waiting to see a deserved case.
If you want kids, then don't ask me to help pay for them. They're yours, take responsibility..........end of!

We are all living such sheltered lives!

My OH works in social care and regularly helps kids whose parents are either unable through drink and/or drugs to feed themselves or their kids properly or more sadly, parents who have mental health or Learning disabilities.

Whatever the reasons, it's not the kids fault.

Although it may be true in some cases, it isn't always about poverty.. If there's cash available it's often spent elsewhere before even thinking about putting food on the table or clothing on their child's back.
Pay all the child maintenance you like, your child will still only get a bag of crisps or a piece of toast for tea. Come the weekend when they're child free money is suddenly available and they're off up town on the razz.
